Kennebunk Dog Park

Kennebunk Dog Park The KDP is a fenced off leash park for dogs to enjoy socializing & playing. The Kennebunk Dog Park was opened to the public in August of 2005.
(25)

Since it's opening the KDP has been a place for dogs to enjoy running and socializing with other dogs. KDP provides a large open area where dogs can safely play off leash. The park is managed and cared for by a group of volunteers known as the Kennebunk Dog Park Group. If you have questions, concerns, suggestions, or would like to join the KDPG please send a message via Facebook. Donations are vit

al in keeping the park open and cared for. Every penny counts when it comes to things like fence repairs, drainage, providing toys/water bowls/swimming pools, stocking p**p bags & dispensers, bench repairs, mowing & w**d whacking, and spraying for ticks in the summer. Tax deductible donations can be mailed to:
Town of Kennebunk
1 Summer Street
Kennebunk, ME 04043
IMPORTANT NOTE: Checks must be made out to the Town of Kennebunk and in the memo section it must be noted that the donation is for the Kennebunk Dog Park

The park is a "use at your own risk" facility, the KDPG is not responsible for any injuries or accidents that occur at the park. In the event of a dog fight or conflict with another owner please contact the Kennebunk Police Department and Animal Control Officer

✴️ Frequently Asked Questions ✴️

A couple of questions that have been asked numerous times lately are: when will the Park be closing and reopening in it's new location within the Public Works expansion? And, what will the size of the relocated Park be?

We've been told that currently the aim is to close the Park over the winter of 2024 and have it able to re-open in it's new location in early 2025. Of course this is dependent on weather, frozen ground, contractor delays, etc.....as anyone who has hired contractors for any project knows sometimes things don't always go as planned and delays/changes are inevitable.

Secondly, we have been assured that the size of the Park will remain the same but the configuration will differ some from the current "shape". There will still be a smaller section and a larger area, an double gated entry, seasonal water availability, and more parking spaces including designated handicap parking.

As always, we will post updates and expected timelines when this information is relayed to us from Public Works.

09/04/2024

Due to the recent (and ongoing) construction work please be aware that sections of the fence are partially dismantled. The gate between the large area and small area is currently off kilter a bit and is not locking securely. As always, use the park at your discretion knowing what it best for your dog, and we thank you all for your patience during this construction phase!

❗️UPDATE ON PARK CLOSURE❗️

The Park will remain closed through Thursday this week to accommodate the tree work being done. We will update if this schedule changes again.

08/23/2024

REMINDER! The Park is CLOSED today through Tuesday for tree work. Please respect the Town's need to access the park during this time.

08/22/2024

Yet again we have had an incident of someone acting like an entitled "Dog Park Karen" 🙄 this is a firm reminder that this is a DOG park and NOT a playground for kids! Children under 12 are not allowed in the Park and if your over 12 kid does not know how to appropriately interact with dogs they are not familiar with or has a fear of dogs they don't know then they SHOULD NOT BE IN THE PARK period. Just because you ignored the Park rules and are in the Park with your child does not give you the right to refuse entry into the Park to another dog owner who is just trying to use it appropriately and for it's intended purpose of exercising & socializing their dog.

‼️PARK CLOSURE NOTICE‼️

The Dog Park will be CLOSED from Friday 8/23 through Tuesday 8/27 to accommodate necessary tree work associated with the Public Works facilities project that has begun at 36 Sea Road. This will likely be the first of several temporary closures in addition to a longer closure that will be necessary while the Park gets relocated to it's new location within the PW Facilities expansion

💸 DONATIONS 💸

Due to a change in policy on how the Town accounts for donations and expenditures for groups like the Community Garden, the Dog Park, etc we will no longer be able to accept donations via a collection box at the Park.

Going forward, cash donations must be made in person at the Town Hall. Checks made out to Town of Kennebunk with the memo line clearly stating Dog Park can be mailed to: Town of Kennebunk, 1 Summer St, Kennebunk ME 04043.

We will be removing the current donation box located at the entry gate by the end of the month. The Park is maintained solely through these generous donations so please make note of this change and continue to support the park by making donations in person or by mail 💚

Apparently the clarification and posting of a sign on the gate to the small area isn't acceptable for the particular "Dog Park Karen" who has been harassing other park users regarding use of the small area of the park.

To this entitled & rude individual: the park is a PUBLIC space and no area of the park is restricted to use by only certain dogs. Also, ripping down signs posted at the park is vandalism and since you so enjoy calling the police you'll be happy to know that if you are caught doing this again we will be calling the police on you for vandalism & harassment. If you can't act like a decent human being then perhaps a public park isn't the place for you to be bringing your dog(s).

So to clarify once more: the smaller grassy area of the park is NOT restricted to use by small breed dogs only. All friendly, socialized spayed & neutered dogs ages 6 months & up are welcome to use either area of the park from dawn to dusk year round.

💸DONATE TO HELP THE PARK💸

Many are unaware that the KDP is maintained solely on the donations of park users & supporters. This year we have seen a substantial decline in donations, particularly cash donations left in the donation deposit box at the entry gate. We desperately need those cash donations to help pay for regular mowing of the park through the summer months, the purchase of new hoses/fittings, replacement of mats on the gazebo floor, replacing rakes & shovels, etc. Please help us to maintain the park by dropping a donation in the deposit park the next time you're at the park! Every dollar counts 💵

⚠️IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION⚠️

A recent incident makes this post a necessary reminder that the small area of the park is just that, a small park, it is NOT specifically a park for only small breed dogs. The entire park is open for dogs of all breeds and sizes (but please no un-neutered or un-spayed dogs and no puppies under 6 months of age). Don't be "that person" that throws a hissy fit because a big dog is in the small area of the park.....we volunteers don't like dealing with the petty drama and the cops certainly have better things to deal with than someone being a "dog park Karen" 🙄

Mosquito & Tick spray tomorrow morning. Please stay out of the park until 10am.

Also, we could use donations to help pay for the grass mowing of the park over the summer months. Cash is preferred, but checks made out to Town Of Kennebunk with DOG PARK clearly written on the memo line are also welcomed. Donations can be safely & securely deposited in the donation box within the Park's entry gate area. THANK YOU!

‼️Attention Park Users & Supporters‼️

As the Park enters its 19th year of being an integral part of the dog owning community that lives in and/or visits the Kennebunk area we are seeking the support of those that currently use, have used, or just plain support the use of the dog park in making sure that the Park remains a clean, well kept, and spacious area where well socialized dogs can safely play off leash year round. If you can, please attend the Town Selectboard Meeting on Tuesday 5/28 at 6:30pm at the Town Hall - this meeting includes information about the Public Works Redevelopment project including details about the relocation/reconfiguration of the dog park. Time at the end of the meeting is allotted for questions from the general public and we truly hope that some of you who use the Park regularly will be there to voice support for the Park so that the Town & Public Works know how important it is to the community 🐶 THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

***THANK YOU to everyone who tagged a business or sent a message offering to help! We have found someone who will be taking on this job for us over the summer. We will happily accept donations to help cover the cost of paying for this upkeep of the park. Checks can be dropped in our donation box (cash can also be deposited in this box) or mailed to: Town of Kennebunk, 1 Summer St, Kennebunk ME 04043....checks need to be made out to the town but MUST list Dog Park in the memo line!***

📣 HELP WANTED‼️

The KDP is looking to pay a person or yard care service that can do a monthly mowing & w**d whacking inside the Park throughout the summer. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated! Please tag persons/businesses in the comments or send a DM with contact information. THANK YOU!

💦 WATER FAUCET IS ON 💦

We will be connecting the hoses soon! Please remember to shut the water off at the spigot after refilling jugs, bowls, and the pool.

Good news! Public Works has gotten all reports on soil testing done and is going through the process of sorting contractor bids for the expansion project that will be happening at the Transfer Station. We have been told that a timeline for this project, including the restructuring of the Dog Park, will hopefully be known in early June. Please stay tuned for important updates on the status of this project as there will likely be a time when the Park is closed for its relocation/restructuring.

The Park sustained some damage to a section of the fence along Sea Road during the recent storm. We have contacted Public Works to get their assistance in removing this downed tree & repairing this section of fence. The park is open to use but please keep a watchful eye on your pups if you choose to let them loose in the large park area as some wiley dogs may be able to escape around the temporary pallet fencing used to cover this gap.

Update on Public Works Expansion Project!

Unfortunately we still don't have a time frame on when this will begin or what "phase" of the project includes the remodeling of the Dog Park. We have been assured that they are doing their best to keep the Park relatively the same size and the location is just being moved a bit further down Sea Rd to accommodate expansion of PW facilities & traffic flow at the Transfer Station.

Of course the storm damage along the beaches has also delayed this process as resources & focus needs to be on repairing streets, sidewalks, and seawalls damaged by the January storm that caused severe coastal flooding.

We will keep Park patrons posted on further updates regarding this PW project!

💧 Water at the Park has now been turned off for the winter! Please remember to bring water from home & take an empty jug with you for your next visit!

Many thanks to Public Works for helping us dispose of the wooded play structures that were showing signs of rot beyond repair. We are sad to see these items go as they were a significant donation to the Park some years ago by a local Boy Scout who obtained his Eagle Scout status by completing the build & installation of these items. At this time we are not looking to replace these structures with the Park's reconfiguration eminent as part of the Public Works facility revamp.

‼️REMINDER‼️

The Park will be CLOSED this Saturday from 8am to 1pm to accommodate traffic from the town's Annual Household Hazardous Waste Day

🧥Are you missing items?🥤

There has been a recent uptick in personal items (sweatshirts, travel mugs, leashes, etc) being left behind on benches and in the gazebo. If you are missing an item and can't recall where you left it, check the Park because one of the many items forgotten here may belong to you!

Please note that the Dog Park will be CLOSED from 8am to 1pm on Saturday 9/30 due to the traffic created by this event.
