Yesterday, Radnor Hunt Pony Club kicked off our unmounted meetings for 2024! Our first meeting was held at a local Fox Hunting barn. The pony clubbers assisted with dinner time feed and they studied horse colors, marking and breeds by meeting all the horses in the barn.

Fun afternoon of learning and horses.

Once a year, Radnor Hunt Pony Clubbers spend the afternoon thanking our local landowners for allowing us to ride our horses on their land. Part of the mission for Pony Club is to preserve and protect open land for horses and riding. Land is essential to virtually all horse sports and equestrian activities. Land stewardship and open space preservation have become cornerstones of the Pony Club educational program.

On Sunday, Radnor Hunt Pony Clubbers hand wrote special thank you notes addressed to local landowners whom share their land for equine use.

These thank you notes are paired up with an assortment of holiday cookies and hand delivered to the landowners. This activity is enjoyed by all. This year, our thank you notes were designed by…….(left to right)

A big congratulations to John R. for achieving his next level certification 2 weeks ago.
πŸ‘πŸŽŠπŸ™ŒπŸŽ‰πŸ†

John achieved his C2-HMπŸ‘πŸ‘.
This is C2 in Horse Management.

This is a huge accomplishment and we look forward to seeing John continue to grow in his communication, confidence, leadership, safety, self-reliance, and horsemanship.

The goal of Pony Club is to teach every member communication, confidence, leadership, safety, self-reliance, and good horsemanship. As members learn and develop at their own pace, they can progress through the Pony Club Standards of Proficiency (SOPs). The SOPs outline a clear progression of skills in riding and horse management. Each level requires an increasing depth of knowledge and abilities. Pony Club members demonstrate their skills and express an appropriate level of knowledge at each certification. Members are evaluated based on the SOPs for each section of understanding.

The levels of certification begin at the D level (beginner), progress to the C level (intermediate), then to the B and A levels (advanced). Achieving an A certification in Pony Club is a highly regarded accomplishment in many aspects of the equine industry.

In Pony Club, Horse Management includes veterinary knowledge, nutritional needs of the horse, conditioning schedules, conformation and soundness issues, farm management needs, trailering, and land management. Members are also required to keep a Health and Maintenance Record Book for a horse they own or care for to complete the Horse Management portions of their certifications.
