Kudos to Cody Minyard, fourth-year veterinary student, who is one of only two students chosen nationally for a $10,000 scholarship presented by Merck Animal Health and the Academy of Veterinary Consultants, or AVC, Foundation. These scholarships are designed to support the education of future bovine veterinarians.

Cody, who is from Platte City, Missouri, said he plans to work at the Maryville Veterinary Clinic in Missouri after he completes his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in May 2025.

Our congratulations go to Dr. Hans Coetzee, who has been bestowed the title, Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. His research work has been instrumental in enhancing the understanding of pain management in farm animals and improving veterinary care standards globally.

Dr. Coetzee is currently serving in the interim role of vice president for research at Kansas State University, but has been a member of the CVM since 2016.

Saluting outstanding faculty for the CVM's prestigious teaching, outreach and research awards: Dr. Emily Klocke, 2024 Zoetis Distinguished Veterinary Teaching Award; Dr. Mac Hafen, 2024 Pritchard Veterinary Service and Outreach Award; and Dr. Jishu Shi, 2024 Zoetis Award for Veterinary Research Excellence.

This past spring semester, the College of Veterinary Medicine presented three of its most distinguished faculty awards to Emily Klocke, Mac Hafen and Jishu Shi.

Meet Joshua Waller, Sergio Castro, Jentri Reamy, Zachary Wolfer and Eric Lorenz, our first group of RUSH DVM scholars. The Rural and Underrepresented Scholarship for Hopeful Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Students program focuses on candidates who are passionate about rural veterinary medicine and supports the recruitment of students who are underrepresented in the profession.

The College of Veterinary Medicine has selected five recipients for a new scholarship to help address shortages of rural veterinarians while increasing overall access to veterinary education.
