Our Story
Day one Animal Rescue is a nonprofit, no kill animal rescue working to save animals from homelessness, neglect, and euthanasia in Western North Carolina and beyond. We run a monthly, low cost spay/neuter clinic open to residents from all Counties in an effort to decrease the pet overpopulation crisis in NC. We also provide free pet food to families in need, and other resources to help keep pets out of shelters and in their homes. We are projecting to take in and adopt out ~400 animals in our first full year of operating. All animals that come into Day One receive the veterinary care they need, vaccinations, treatment for parasites, spay/neuters, and microchips, as well as the behavioral and emotional support and time they need to find their forever homes. Animals come into our care through both owner surrenders and municipal animal shelters. Day One is a foster home based rescue, and all of our animals live in loving foster homes until they are adopted. Applications must be submitted and approved in order to meet one of our animals. We aim to make the adoption process simple and adopter-friendly. Unlike County and City Animal Shelters, we receive no government or county funding for our work. We rely on donations and support from our community to continue with the work that we do.
