Come for the fun, funny stories about adoptable dogs, interesting information about shelter-based enrichment, and help us support humane housing for homeless pets! Also, animal related memes, obviously.
We believe that joy, compassion and positive reinforcement (for animals and humans) are the greatest drivers of success in a shelter environment. We believe that providing resources and support can produce better outcomes for the animals and reduce burnout in staff and volunteers.
Humane sheltering and advocacy for homeless animals is emotional work, and we’ve all seen the image of the broken dog behind their kennel door, lost, abandoned, forgotten. It breaks our hearts but it doesn’t represent the whole picture. Research also shows that the old story of the “pound killing healthy animals for space” doesn’t drive adoptions nearly as much as one my think.
In fact, LIMA-based handling, Enrichment and community education are the critical factors that can get dogs out alive.
