Please be advised that Parker Animal Hospital will no longer be approving prescriptions from Chewy pharmacy as of 4/17/2024. This is due to a change from CHEWY that would require our clinic to allow access to our client and patient information, which we refuse to do.

It is with a heavy heart that we share some important news with you. After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close Parker Animal Hospital. Our last day of operation will be Tuesday April 30.
This decision was not made lightly, and we want to assure you that it was made with careful consideration for the well-being of our clients, staff, and patients. We are incredibly grateful for the trust you have placed in us over the years and for allowing us to care for your beloved pets.
We understand that this news may come as a surprise and may raise questions about the continuity of care for your pets. Please rest assured that we are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible for you and your furry family members.
Here are some important details about the closure:
1. Final Appointments: We will continue to see patients for appointments until Tuesday April 30. If you have an upcoming appointment scheduled after this date, we kindly ask that you contact us to reschedule or to arrange for a transfer of your pet's medical records to another veterinary clinic.
2. Transfer of Medical Records: If you would like to transfer your pet's medical records to another veterinary clinic, please contact us, and we will be happy to assist you with this process. Your pet's health history is important, and we want to ensure that their new veterinarian has access to all relevant information. There will be a $4.00 paper processing fee for printed and mailed records. Electronic records can be sent at no charge.
3. Prescription Refills: If your pet requires ongoing medication or prescription refills, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can arrange for a written prescription to fill at another pharmacy.
4. Emergency Care: In the event of a medical emergency after our closure, please contact Animal Emergency and Specialty Center at 720.842.5050. They provide 24/7 emergency care and can assist you with any urgent medical needs your pet may have.
5. Thank You: We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your loyalty and support throughout the years. It has been a privilege to be a part of your pet's lives, and we will cherish the memories we have shared with you.
If you have any questions or concerns about the closure or need assistance with anything, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to support you during this transition.
Thank you again for entrusting us with the care of your beloved pets. It has been an honor to serve you, and we wish you and your furry family members all the best in the future.
Sincerely,
Dr. Joanne Bigbee

We have had a lot of questions about this respiratory disease in dogs so I thought I would post a quote from Dr. Scott Weese, an infectious disease expert.

What should dog owners do?

Relax. It seems like there’s more respiratory disease in dogs in some areas, but that’s something we often see. Serious disease is being reported in a small subset of infected dogs, but that’s also something we regularly see. So, being aware is good, being anxious is bad, freaking out is definitely unnecessary.

The vast majority of dogs that get CIRDC recover uneventfully. That’s as true now as it was a year or 10 years ago. However, severe disease can occur so we don’t want to be too dismissive.

My dog is sick. What should I do now?

The default answer is “talk to your veterinarian if you’re concerned.”

You can read the complete article here:

The Worms and Germs Blog authored by Drs. Scott Weese and Maureen Anderson covers animal health and diseases and is published by the Ontario Veterinary College University of Guelph.

Due to inclement weather, Parker Animal Hospital will be closing early today Friday 11/24. We apologize for the inconvenience.

11/22/2023

As the holiday approaches, we have been getting a lot of calls about the respiratory disease in dogs. Yes, we have seen a number of cases in the area. Most of our cases have been a mild to moderate dry cough with some lethargy that can last 2 weeks.

In our hospital, coughing dogs go directly into a room and avoid the scale and the lobby. After patients are seen, we close that room and thoroughly clean it.

We are encouraging wellness exams and vaccines, including Bordetella.

If you notice that your dog is coughing more than 24 hours, please call for an appointment. We are closed on Thursday but will reopen on Friday. Keep your dog at home, no hikes, parks or walks. You can bring your dog into the bathroom when you shower for moist heat. We do not recommend any other over the counter medications without an exam.

We hope everyone has a great holiday! Special shout out to our first responders who are likely working.

Fat Bear Week is upon us! Be an informed voter and do your civic duty!

My job is just Fat Bear.

Today's the day! Every fall, Katmai National Park & Preserve in Alaska hosts , an annual tournament celebrating the success of the bears winter prep at the park’s Brooks River. From October 4 - 10, 2023, your vote will decide who will wear the crown. (No actual crown will be placed on the bear. Volunteers to place crowns were hard to come by.) By the end of the week, only one well-fed ursine will receive the title of the fattest bear. For each pairing of bears, you'll be given the opportunity to vote on the bear of your choosing.

To make sure you’re making an informed choice, meet the bears, learn about previous champions, or watch a live stream of the bears of Brooks River at: https://www.nps.gov/katm/learn/fat-bear-week-2023.htm

Voting will occur daily from 8am - 5pm AKDT at fatbearweek.org!

We hope you're as excited to start your morning with Bubbles as we are! Thanks for stopping by, friend! ❤️❤️❤️
