Today we are celebrating our amazing technician, Caitlyn! Caitlyn has lived near the ocean most of her life and has always had an admiration and vast curiosity for the sea. She hopes to someday live right on the coast with lots of animals and land.
She is an avid baker and works at a food truck on the weekends. She loves collecting old leather-bound books, watching paranormal shows, drinking copious amounts of coffee, and helping bring care to all the creatures of the world. She has numerous years of emergency and critical-care experience as well as working at a few general practices in Portland and on the Oregon coast. Caitlyn is a very silly, bubbly soul with a sassy side and is someone that has maybe a little too much patience. She lives in the Mount Tabor area with her partner, Joe. They have three animals, which spend most of their time stealing and begging for their food. No wonder you fit into Roseway so well, Caitlyn - thanks for all that you do!

We want to take a moment today to appreciate our newest receptionist, Hailey! Hailey was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. Being around animals her whole life, it seemed natural she would end up volunteering at the Humane Society and vet clinics. This led her to work at doggy daycare/training facilities, owning two dogs of her own, and ultimately to Roseway Vet Hospital!
When Hailey’s not at work you can find her at the coast or in the woods exploring with her dogs.
Thank you for being an important part of the Roseway team, Hailey!

Today we are profiling one of our newest receptionists, Sydney! Sydney is from the East Coast, born and raised in the Hudson Valley of upstate NY. She graduated from SUNY Buffalo State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Environment Science. Animals and wildlife have always been a part of Sydney’s life. She has several pets: two pups named Lulu and Chauncey, a kitty named Rufus, and some fish. When Sydney isn’t at work, she’s with her friends hiking and camping somewhere in the mountains or along the coast. Sydney has been a great addition to the Roseway team!

Memorial Day is a day when we remember those lost—and the unofficial start of summer. If you’re cooking out, soaking up some rays, or just hanging with family and friends, keep your pet’s safety in mind with these tips:
Beware toxic foods. Grapes, raisins, and chocolate are all toxic to animals, so keep them out of paws reach. Corn cobs can cause gastrointestinal obstructions, and cooked bones are a choking hazard.
Don’t leave pets unsupervised around water. Not all dogs are expert swimmers, and drinking pool water or salt water can make them sick.
Insect spray is for humans only. Unless it is specifically designed for animals, the chemicals in insect spray can cause vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, and even neurological damage.
Provide plenty of cool water and shade. Pets can get dehydrated quickly and those with flat faces, like pugs and boston terriers, are especially susceptible to exhaustion and dehydration.
Have a safe and relaxing Memorial Day Weekend!

Today we would like to celebrate one of our newer receptionists, Ryan! Ryan has been living in Portland for almost nine years. She moved here from Atlanta, but is originally from New Orleans. She has always had a passion for animals, volunteering at a local animal shelter when she was young. She is a proud parent of two cats: Stan and Morris, whom she has had since they were kittens. Ryan is fairly new to the animal medicine field, but prior to this, she worked at a doggie daycare, which evolved into her wanting to learn more about animal medicine. When she’s not working, she is taking care of her many plants, reading up on astrology, enjoying the vast nature of the PNW, or thrifting locally. Thank you for all you do for RVH, Ryan!
(Ryan can be seen here with Delaney's dog, Sooki, whom she plays Auntie to whenever she can!)

Today we are celebrating one of our newer veterinary assistants, Stefanie! Stefanie comes from Alaska and has lived in Portland for two years. She has had a special love for animals for as long as she can remember. She believes in providing the same level of care and commitment to her animal patients as she does for her own two pets, Haku and Penny.
While working as a vet assistant, Stefanie is also studying to earn her license to be a veterinary technician.
When Stefanie is not working, she enjoys spending time with her Haku and Penny at the dog park, as well as exploring her NE Alberta neighborhood with friends and family.
We're so glad you've made your home here in Portland and at Roseway, Stefanie!

Today we want to take the time to give a shout out to our Kennel Attendant, Leanna. Leanna moved from rural New York to Portland in 2018 and has been loving it ever since. As a long time animal lover, Leanna fits into our team perfectly! She enjoys getting to meet all your four-legged fur babies and providing snuggles when needed. When not at work, Leanna loves taking her two dogs on hikes around the PNW. Georgia the we**ie and Texas the chiwe**ie may have little legs, but they love to explore! When not adventuring, they can be found digging for worms in the backyard or trying to initiate another game of fetch. Other human hobbies include gardening, reading, baking, and embroidering. Leanna's been a great addition to the Roseway family - so, welcome!!

Today we would like to welcome one of our newest Assistants, Camille, to Roseway Veterinary Hospital! Camille lived in the Portland suburbs until she moved to California in 2015 to attend UC Davis and receive a degree in Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology. She loved growing up in Portland so much that she decided to move back home after getting her degree. Camille has always had a passion for animal medicine and plans to attend veterinary school in the near future. She has a cat of her own named Fifi, a senior cat she adopted last year. In her free time, Camille likes to spend time outdoors with her friends or snuggling with Fifi on the couch. We're so glad you're on our team, Camille!

Several factors can contribute to a sudden change in stool quality. Aside from illness or stress-related factors, reasons can include dietary indiscretions (sudden changes in diet, new treats or table scraps, getting into trash or eating toys, etc.) or parasites. It is important to contact your veterinarian right away if you know your pet consumed foreign material recently or is showing signs of lethargy, vomiting, or poor appetite.
HOWEVER, if your beloved fur-baby has come down with the runs but otherwise seems to be feeling okay, here are some tips that may help you deal with the worrisome symptoms of diarrhea.
Spring is prime time for pet allergies and did you know that, just like you, pets can have adverse reactions to the environment?
Have you noticed your pet itching more as the weather warms? Maybe you’ve watched your best friend wheezing or suffering through a runny nose this time of year. Like humans, pets can be allergic to grass, dust, pollen, and other environmental allergens.
