I went out to check to make sure they all had water at about midnight last night. And, several drank most of their buckets. So I filled them all and gave them an extra flake of hay.

This morning I came in to feed and half the barn again had 3/4 of their buckets gone.

In this weather it’s so important to make sure they’re drinking. I’m glad I’m the a**l “pain in the a$$” that people say I am. I’ve been told for years that I make people nervous because I’m too much of a micro manager.

Sorry. Making sure they’ve always got CLEAN water and plenty of food is important to me. 🤷‍♀️

😂😂😂 Or… “You just don’t have enough pasture for me. My horse needs 100 acres of grass to be happy and out all day. BUT I want to only pay $100 a month board. AND they need brought in 5 times a day for meds and grain and supplements and etc etc etc” 😡

Suuure… we can all afford 1000 acres of land to house your horses “cheaply”. Who are they kidding? Do they forget the cost of overhead? Like MORE MORTGAGE PAYMENTS to buy MORE LAND???

Sweet Jesus people need to get a grip. Like THEY grow their own food to eat? Or do they have to outsource their OWN nutrition? And OUR OWN FOOD PRICES HAVEN’T SKYROCKETED??? 🤷‍♀️

Ugh… I’m so glad I’ve retired and have such fantastic boarders that are happy and lovely people. 🤦‍♀️

They would rather congregate in the arena than stay out where the flies are biting. 🤷‍♀️ At least they did spend most of the day out back until it got too hot for them. ❤️

OK… I am sure I will get some flack for this…

BUT… if you don’t actually know HOW to use this, please do NOT use it. I see these in so many boarding facilities and “trainers” barns. (I’m old and no longer care what people think sooo there’s that)

This should not be used “to get energy out”.

This is not made to run the horse ragged or until it is full of sweat and can hardly breathe.

This is not to make your horse “obey” by running the ever loving crap out of them.

This should be used WITH finesse. For body language. To become PARTNERS with your horses. This is a training tool that should only be used by experienced professionals the CORRECT way.

This round pen can either become a benefit to you AND your horse, or abuse and cause more harm than good.

If you see this used where the person is making the horse fly around with no rhyme or reason and the horse looks distressed, it’s being used incorrectly. Period.

My morning rant is over. Sorry folks, major pet peeve of mine as I see it used dangerously wrong ALL THE TIME and finally I had to say something. Peace out ☮️

Sooo… I guess it doesn’t matter about turn out on grass. A horse will eat almost the same amount in 2 to 3 hours a day, as they do being out all day. 🤔

The grazing muzzle cut intakes by 83%, and ponies were not able to eat more that 0.5 kg of dry matter, which was a significant decrease in caloric intake for the ponies.

I’ve said this for decades. And continue to say it today.

Training a horse actually takes LESS time taking baby steps for each thing they learn, rather than using gimicks and equipment that simply destroys the horses true alignment. I see it unfortunately ALL the time.

Use your HORSE as the rule, not where you THINK he “should” be. Doing things correctly and slowly, you will be WAY farther along in one year than if you try to rush them. 💕

I’m a member of some pages that are for barn owners. OMG these poor people.

I know that boarders have a lot of issues finding a good barn to keep their horses, but the same is true of barn owners! They get the opposite of issues. A-hole boarders. 🤷‍♀️

Wow… they vent a lot 😂

Like when a boarder wraps their horses legs at night and just EXPECTS the manager to take them off and wrap them neatly up! Or just expects them to feed “special” or give meds or put their horse out alone in a separate pasture… etc etc etc The list goes on.

Yeah… no. I told them to charge for that crap or at least expect their boarders to politely ASK them as a favor or something. Not expecting them to do this daily.

Don’t take advantage of your barn managers people. They get pi**ed off too. Just sayin. It goes both ways. I’m lucky here.

Sprayed and killed all the weeds a half a dozen times. 😂 Also rolled the ground so it’s not as choppy.

Now we are over seeding with pasture mix. The back pasture is going to make for some very happy horses!

All done in about a months time of keeping them in the dry lot. They play in the indoor and can stay out.

We also can use the front turn out that still has grass as well.

A little bit of time off of the grass, and the rest of the year they have grass and can play outside. Love it. I want them to have actual grass. Not round bales of hay. Call it a pet peeve of mine.
