Change of Operating Hours

Effective October 1, 2021 we will be changing our operating hours .
We will be open Monday - Thursday 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.
We will be closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Calls on Friday will be fielded by our answering service when we are closed . See our website for more details on after - hours emergency care.

We will continue to look for additional qualified technical staff and hope to increase hours of operation at some point in 2022.

As always, we aim to continue to provide you with high quality, common sense veterinary care as we have for the past 9+ years .

A Note from Dr Cameron:

On a daily basis we are insulted, yelled at, cursed, hung up on. We do not have the speed of a google search or the convenience of an Amazon Prime delivery. We try hard to provide good care for your animals and by extension for Good care takes time and attention. All we ask from you is some patience and civility. Please.
Thank you,
Dr. Andy Cameron

We are excited to announce:

Dr. Cameron has been going back to school to refresh his cardiology training and echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart) skills, attending a series of lectures and labs on the subject. Earlier in his career he trained and performed echocardiography commonly. It’s been a while and the need for such expertise again exists for our patients, with no veterinary cardiologist available in the state of New Mexico and long waiting lists if you were referred to specialists in Colorado or Arizona.

Echocardiography allows us to see the heart function and take measurements of the heart muscle, the heart chambers and valves and of the heart’s ability to do its job.
If the heart isn’t working properly, echocardiography is usually the best way to tell us what’s wrong so we know how to help.

Most commonly, Echocardiography is useful for diagnosing and monitoring heart murmurs in dogs and cats. It is used for a variety of other heart conditions as well. It takes special skills and equipment to accurately perform an echocardiograph, both of which Cameron Veterinary Clinic possesses.

While the training will not make Dr. Cameron a veterinary cardiologist, it will allow him to get the information needed about your pet to make a diagnosis and to collaborate with a cardiologist about your pet’s heart condition. It will allow us to give you the answers that you need about your pet’s condition in a timely manner.

Echocardiography takes about an hour of time with the patient. Most studies are done without the need for sedation using gentle restraint by our technicians while Dr. Cameron performs the study. Some hair may need to be clipped off the patient, but nothing more traumatic than that. A little more time is required for review by the doctors, but this is done after your pet is on its way home with you.
