We offer a lifeline to as many of these wonderful animals as possible. Sadly, many of the dogs and cats that we take in are just days — and sometimes hours — away from being euthanized for no reason other than lack

Rascal & Luka are doing well now but they were emaciated, matted & badly neglected when we first laid eyes on them. Happily, Rascal has been sponsored (thanks Tamara B & students) & will be coming to us Saturday.

🪖This Veteran's Day, we salute all veterans, including Stubby, a pit bull WWI war hero.

Stubby received many military honors for his service and is the most decorated military dog in history: he was actually promoted to Seargent. After the war, Stubby came to DC where he became famous for nudging a football around the field before Georgetown football games.

🐶🐶 Happy update: Stella! Not only did this pup manage to get herself adopted by the mom who only planned to foster her (clever dog!), she also just successfully finished her heart worm treatment. Now she's ready for non-stop zoomies! Happy life, Stella!

Our Story

City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties rescues adoptable dogs and cats in overcrowded and high-kill shelters, where resources are severely limited. We offer a lifeline to as many of these wonderful animals as possible. Sadly, many of the dogs and cats that we take in are just days — and sometimes hours — away from being euthanized for no reason other than lack of space. By finding these animals permanent and loving homes in the DC metropolitan area, we can enrich lives of humans and their pets. We welcome your help in any capacity, through volunteering, fostering, adopting, sponsoring and/or donating.

Six years ago, three people joined forces to bring one dog from Georgia, where he was just about to be euthanized, to DC, where he was adopted into a loving home within a week. More than 4,000 dogs (and now cats) later, City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is known as the place to go when pet adoption is in view.

Here's why.

Working closely with high-kill shelters in rural communities with few resources, CDR&CK finds at-risk adoptable dogs and cats and saves their lives.
