In my opinion, the world lost the best dog ever yesterday.
Wheezy F Baby, born Nov 2008, Passed peacefully at home July 21, 2024 surrounded by family and friends.
We rescued him from the south. He arrived to us, via an agency in NY, when he was just 8 weeks old. It was love at first sight. Unfortunately, 4 short weeks later, Wheezy would have to fight for his life to survive Parvo. After 1 week in the ICU at Foster Hospital for Small Animals at Tufts University he was cleared and sent home. We were elated. We already love this little guy so much in our short time together - and he felt the same back. He fought so hard to come back to us.
He went for another unplanned adventure around 6months old when he slipped his harness during 4th of July celebrations in RI. He was missing for almost exactly 24 hrs. This was before the days of smart phones. We found one of the first online amber alerts for animals FindToto.com and released an alert for him. Every landline within a 2 mile radius was called and given a website to look up information and see a picture of Wheezy. We started to get calls immediately and were able to pinpoint an area where we were sure he was hiding out. We were able to catch him. Phew…. That was stressful (just ask anyone that was there)
Until he was around 3 years old he attended Linda’s Doggy Playland with me, where I worked, everyday. He met so many friends and learned a lot about self control and patience.
In 2010, I decided to take a leap and signed myself and Wheezy up for Karen Pryor Academy(animal and behavior training through positive, force free methods). We passed with honors and started our own dog walking and training business. He was my right hand man and we cruised through the years having the best times.
In 2015, Wheezy was already 7 years old when his world was rocked again by the birth of our daughter, Babette. He immediately took on motherly responsibilities for her. He didn’t like it when she was upset and was always worried about her. Her new life gave him a second wind and he thrived within our little family.
Of course, there was a lot of loss along the way. During his long, almost 16 years, he lost most of his canine friends including his sister, Foxy Brown and feline brothers, Spitty, Mini and The Midge. He felt all of those losses deeply but kept on going for us.
During the pandemic, we decided it was time for another dog - and along came Rosie. He was the perfect older brother, gentle, caring, interested. They didn’t bond immediately but it didn’t take long. And as before, new life was surging through him again and he was acting like a puppy.
Time seemed to never catch him. He was always playful, running and jumping well into his teen years. But as we all know, time runs out.
This past January, the time finally caught up to him and he started to have health issues. He fought tooth and nail to be here for an extra 6 months with us. He was an extension of me. He was our family dog, but my dog. We spoke the same language - we could communicate with glances and gestures lol. I knew him, inside and out and I know he knew me like that too. The pain will fade but my memories will never disappear.
Please think about him today. If you knew him, think about some memories. If you want to share anything, please don’t hesitate. I miss him so much. My heart is broken.
Rest easy Wee Wee. Until we meet again 💔❤️😘Momma loves her best boy
