I have recently made the decision to close my stable as of the end of January 2025. My husband Pat & I are very excited to announce that we are going to build Pat Murphy Racing together! My team of horses will transfer over to Pat & I will continue to work with them closely. I would like to thank all my owners, supporters, jockeys, & especially my team of staff at home 💖 We have made many wonderful memories over the years & had some amazing results from a little country stable! I will be forever grateful 🫶🏻

It was a solid effort by RUFF yesterday in the Tab Highway at Rosehill Gardens. He deserved his shot at this level and didn't look out of place finishing with them over the 1500m.

'Ruff Result' No Surprise To Emma (Goulburn, Sunday)

Emma Murphy capped off a big 48 hours for Goulburn trainers when she produced Ruff to win one of the features on Sunday's Goulburn Australia Goulburn Cup program.

Murphy is now training under her own banner and was thrilled to win the Graeme Spackman Goulpro Country Magic with Ruff ($7.50 into $5.50).

"It was a special result winning 'Spacky's' race for 2023/24," Emma said post-race.

"I spoke to Judy (his wife) and said he would have had a twinkle in his eye seeing the result and she agreed!"

Emma said she was confident the four-year old gelding was capable of a strong result going into Sunday.

"I was very happy with how Ruff was going into the race and the plan was to roll forward."

With a track assisting horses who could do it at both ends of a race kudos still goes to Murphy who was able to coax enough race fitness into him over a mile and win second up with a strong headwind also in play.

"It helped how the track was playing too but he was very brave and it was a fair dinkum battle late!"

Emma also referenced winning jockey Jean Van Overmeire and James Innes Jnr who was a plan A option before a recent injury.

"I was thrilled to get Jean on after James' recent head and neck injury, James knows the horse well and had helped us with his preparation."

His trainer say she's excited about Ruff's ongoing campaign too.

"I'm keeping an eye out to see if there are any suitable Highway Handicaps coming up as well."

Emma also referenced defeating partner Pat's horse, Fairness Is Best ($19) in the race, labelling it 'a good Murphy quinella'. We know who's doing the dishes all week!

Goulburn's master trainer Danny Williams sent another TAB Highway Handicap safely back down the Hume on the weekend as well courtesy of Atmospheric Rock's ($11) barnstorming win at Royal Randwick.

Williams produced the galloper ready to win with 62kg and all! Jason Collett then served up a winning ride to match, despite a few 'stop-go' moments in the straight.

Williams maintained the rage on his home track on Sunday, doing the right thing by favourite backers in the opening event putting the promising Highway Strip ($1.65 favourite) in the fast lane to win first up.

Rounding out the weekend's Goulburn mash up was Tash Burleigh who went within a whisker of a giant killing result at headquarters in the quaddie closer on Saturday.

The Burleigh-Amy McLucas-Pokerjack combination was only gunned down in the shadows of the post at $41 ... just missing out on posting what would have been another 'rough result'!

Goulburn Race Club extends its thanks to all industry participants, on track patrons and its commercial partners who supported Sunday's Goulburn Cup meeting.

It was an emotional win for the Murphy family and in a 2 horse war RUFF was able to fight back late. Emma has a fantastic record on Goulburn Cup day and it’s 2 successive Graeme Spackman Country Magic wins.

Emma got her training license in 2012 and it didn’t take long to succeed at metropolitan level with Wildflower winning at Randwick over the 2000m. She loves training the staying types and this is where the strength of the stable lies with horses like the winner of 6 races Thunder Road filling the highlight reel.

Emma and Lucy Longmire live for their horses. The identical twin sisters have recently formed a training partnership based in Goulburn, New South Wales. The Longmire's run a boutique stable where the horses come first and only the best of care is accepted.The Longmire's are hands on with their training and both know their roles in the day to day running of the stable. They ride their own track work which they believe is a significant advantage to many of the larger trainers as they can attain a good handle on where each horse is at during its preparation and identify any little differences between each galloper. The sisters are a great partnership and bounce ideas off each other to ensure the stable is running as efficiently as possible and continuing to strive for the best. The Longmire's are determined to give every horse the best opportunity to succeed and to do to this requires a number of attributes and beliefs that Twinstar Racing adhere to. They are very patient with their horses and like to let them gain confidence by achieving small goals before moving on to the next challenge. This includes not pushing them too hard physically or mentally and ensuring the horse remains happy and healthy in the training environment. There is no expense spared at Twinstar Racing with chiropractors, dentists and physiotherapists regular contributors in the day to day running of the stable, ensuring each horse is kept in excellent condition
