🐎 ANIMAL WELFARE – WANNEROO BUSHFIRE 🐮

An animal evacuation area has been set up at the Wanneroo Showgrounds.

Access is from the Ariti Avenue entrance on the southern side of the showgrounds.

Pets (except recognised assistance animals) are not allowed inside evacuation centres for health and safety reasons, so you should make alternative arrangements for them. If this is not possible, please still proceed to the evacuation centre with your pets and await further advice.

This week's temperatures are set to soar across WA in an expected record-breaking November heatwave. 🔥

We are asking pet owners to remember that animals need protection from extreme weather too!

Here are our top tips to keep your pets cool!

☀️ Make sure pets have access to shade, or better yet, bring them inside
☀️ Make sure there are multiple bowls of cool water available
☀️ DO NOT tie dogs up and leave them unsupervised – we’ve seen cases where they tangle their tether, leaving it so short they can’t get to shade or water which has led to heatstroke deaths
☀️ Ensure rabbits, guinea pigs and rats have frozen water bottles to keep themselves cool
☀️ LEAVE YOUR DOG AT HOME! Dogs die in hot cars – it is not safe to leave your dog in the car, even while quickly ducking into the shop

And finally, we are teaming up with WALGA to ask pet owners not to walk their pet in the heat of the day! If you can’t leave your hand on the road, footpath or sand at the beach comfortably for five seconds, then their paws will burn!

If you see a dog in a hot car, note down the vehicle's registration number and location and report it immediately to the RSPCA Cruelty Hotline on 1300 278 358 (1300 CRUELTY) or call WA Police on 000.
