It's that time of year again when the holiday booking websites start crashing as we all realise the holiday season is fast approaching! Our pet boarding facilities are highly sought after, especially over the Christmas and summer holiday period, and we book out super fast - often due to recurrent bookings from the previous year - a true testament to the experience our accommodation and our pet loving team provide! Dental hygiene is one of the most important aspects of your pets health, and if not managed well, it can lead to a lot more than just halitosis on four legs. Infection, chronic pain, as well as long-term consequences like heart, liver and kidney disease can all result from prolonged poor oral health. We all know we are supposed to check our pearly whites twice a year, so why not our pets? Just like us humans, preventative dental checks will keep those cat and canine choppers in mint condition, and a pre Christmas check up is a great way to give you and your pet even more reasons to smile for the festive season.

Trick or treat? Dogs are often very good at tricks, but when it comes to treats this Halloween, make sure those candies and chocolates are kept well away from sniffing noses on four legs. You might be aware of how bad chocolate can be for your pooch, but sweeteners in lollies and candies like xylitol can also be harmful to pets. Sorry Halloween Hounds - looks like it's more tricks and less treats for you for Halloween!

Your pets though, are not invited to share in your chocolate indulgence, because chocolate is toxic to pets! It contains a substance called theobromine, which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, and even death in animals, so enjoy it all yourself, or keep it well out of reach of curious four legged friends.

Does your dog appear to have ESP? It is probably just their highly sensitive hearing ability that gives them this apparent sixth sense - a fun fact we thought worth noting today, which is World Hearing day! Dogs not only hear much softer and therefore more far away sounds than us humans, but they are also able to detect sounds at a much higher pitch. This is thanks to their predatory heritage, requiring them to hear the tiny animals’ squeaks for survival. Nowadays, their outstanding auditory ability can be a bit of a nuisance when living with humans who use noisy, high pitched machines like vacuums and power tools! Cue the canine earmuffs!
