That escalated quickly! A week of temps in the mid-thirties is on its way and it's important we keep our pets safe in the heat! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿถ

The two most common heat-related welfare reports we receive every year are people walking their dogs on hot roads, footpaths, and beach sand, and dogs being left in hot cars. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

This is a reminder to please protect your hound and check the ground before a walk, and to never leave your pet in a parked car.

Before you take your dog out for your walk, check the surface temperature by placing your palm down on the ground. If you can't comfortably hold it there for five seconds, it's too hot for your dog's sensitive paws and may cause injury. โ™จ๏ธ

If you need to go for a drive, leave your dog at home where there is shade and plenty of water, where you know they will be safe. There is no excuse for leaving them locked in a car.

Let's keep our best friends safe. Help us spread the word. It's the first truly warm week of the season - let's safely enjoy the sunny weather together. ๐Ÿฅฐ

Obesity in dogs can lead to several health issues, including:

1. Excess weight puts additional stress on joints, which can lead to or worsen arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions.

2. Obesity increases the risk of heart disease and can cause breathing difficulties, as the lungs and heart have to work harder to support the dog's body.

3. Overweight dogs are at higher risk of developing insulin resistance, which can lead to diabetes, a condition that requires lifelong management.

Preventing obesity through proper diet and regular exercise is crucial for maintaining a dog's overall health.

We often blame our dogs and get frustrated when they โ€œact up.โ€ But we as humans need to learn basic training to help our dogs understand us. Important too, is to understand them.

So very true! ๐Ÿถ

Do you know how to perform on your pet? โš ๏ธ

It's difficult suffering from anxiety and unfortunately our precious pooches can experience this too ๐Ÿฅบ

Being very sociable animals, dogs need plenty of human companionship to feel safe and happy. When they are left alone, some dogs can feel distressed.

The return to work and school after the summer holidays can be a big change for dogs, so it's super important to understand the signs of separation anxiety and what you can do to prevent it โค๏ธ

Read our vets' advice for more info on how to stop the signs, prevention and treatment: http://pdsa.me/mlD0

[Visual description: An infographic outlining treatment for separation anxiety in dogs. This includes: Getting your dog assessed by a certified behaviourist will help you understand why your dog feels the way they do. Making adjustments in your home such as building your dog a den/safe place and giving them a choice of activities to do when they are alone. Creating a routine for your dog so they know when you are leaving and what happens when you are out of the house can help build their confidence and reduce their anxiety. Remember to take your time. Managing separation related problems takes a lot of time, effort and commitment from owners. Most dogs will improve with the right help but this change is likely to take some time. Medication can help alongside behavioural therapy, but can usually be stopped once theyโ€™ve learnt to cope on their own.]

Here are five reasons why mixed-breed dogs deserve and need to be groomed, just like purebred dogs:

1. Health Maintenance: Regular grooming helps identify potential health issues like skin infections, parasites, or abnormalities such as lumps or bumps. This is crucial for the overall well-being of all dogs, including mixed breeds.
2. Hygiene and Cleanliness: Grooming keeps mixed-breed dogs clean, preventing the buildup of dirt, debris, and bacteria. It helps reduce odor and keeps their coat and skin healthy.
3. Preventing Matting and Tangling: Even if mixed-breed dogs have varying coat types, regular brushing and grooming prevent their fur from matting, which can lead to discomfort, skin irritation, and even infections.
4. Shedding Control: Grooming helps manage shedding, which is beneficial for the dogโ€™s comfort and cleanliness in the home. Removing dead fur through brushing reduces the amount of loose hair in your living space.
5. Bonding and Socialization: Grooming sessions strengthen the bond between dogs and their owners. Additionally, it helps mixed-breed dogs become more comfortable with handling, which is especially useful during vet visits or when interacting with other people.

All dogs, regardless of their breed, benefit from proper grooming for their health, comfort, and well-being.
