We are slightly behind on our social media... but without further ado we would like to congratulate our teams who completed their service dog exam and graduated in November!
Congratulations to
Arjen and Autism Service Dog Loki
Victoria and Medical Response Service Dog Nana
Sarah and Multipurpose Service Dog Bane
Stay tuned as we have several teams preparing to graduate or complete their re-certification exam over the next couple of months!
A big thank you to Courtney Hatton for co-evaluating and assisting with all our service dog exams!
This week during group class our Service Dogs in Training had fun working on confidence-building exercises. We worked on creating a positive association with statues, different textures items, different heights as well as unbalanced flooring.
Thank You to all our incredible Volunteers for coming out!
The mall presents lots of great exposure opportunities for our service dog prospects! Join K9 Lifelines Polly on her recent adventures @stoneroadmall.
She experienced lots of new things such as people of all ages, mobility aids, loud noises, different sights and sounds, heights, elevators, escalators, open back stairs and live music.
This weekend Polly also met and started her journey with her Puppy Raiser Jenny!
Help us welcome Jenny to our Puppy Raising Team!
Some of our Service Dogs in Training took a field trip to the Bowling Alley and Arcade a few weeks ago!
The dogs got to practice holding their down stays in a high-distraction environment.
In honor of Service Dog Ellie beginning team training, enjoy this throwback to Ellie at 4 months old showing off her obedience!
Today is also her partner Jake's Birthday! Help us celebrate and support this new team! We still have $17,500 left to raise to cover the expenses of raising and training Ellie for Jake. If you'd like to be a part of giving Jake the gift of independence, we have organized a fundraiser. https://gofund.me/38e86440
Please help us get the word out!
K9 Lifelines Southern got his breakfast yesterday morning by foraging through some plastic bottles.
This exercise helps our future service dogs get use to loud noises, as well as different textures and objects moving under their feet/ hitting their sides in a fun and positive way.
Service Dog In Training Chester demonstrates one of the many anxiety response skills our service dogs can be trained to perform.
At K9 Lifelines we custom train every dog to their individual client's needs. This means we can teach our dogs to recognize common behaviours their specific handler does when anxious, having a panic attack or flashback. So they can respond and aid their handlers without needing additional prompting.
In this video, Chester has been trained to offer light pressure therapy using the weight of his head when he recognizes his handler shaking their leg.
Ellie may be the youngest dog in our program, but she is determined to keep up with the other service dogs in training.
Here are just a few of the skills she has been working on.
