Starting on August 1, 2024, the new CDC regulations for dogs entering the United States include several key requirements to ensure smooth travel:

1. **3 Years of Rabies Vaccination History:**
- Dogs must have a documented history of rabies vaccination covering the past 3 years. If the dog is younger than 3 years old, it must have received all required rabies vaccines appropriate for its age.

2. **Microchip:**
- Dogs must be microchipped. The microchip should be implanted either before or during the rabies vaccination process.

3. **Rabies Vaccine Certificate:**
- A valid rabies vaccination certificate must be provided, documenting that the dog has been vaccinated against rabies. The certificate should include information such as the vaccine manufacturer, lot number, and expiration date of the vaccine.

4. **Physical Exam:**
- The dog must undergo a physical examination by a licensed veterinarian. This exam should be conducted within 30 days before the dog's entry into the United States.

5. **Veterinarian Endorsement:**
- All required documentation, including the rabies vaccination certificate and any health certificates, must be endorsed by an accredited veterinarian.

5. **CDC Dog Import form**- The CDC Dog Import Form must be completed by the importer of the dog. It is free and can be completed on the day of travel (we recommend completing it a few days before travel).
Importers must submit a new form if any information changes, such as dates of travel or the port of entry.
You will need to know your dog’s microchip number and must upload a photo of your dog showing its head and body.
After submitting the form, importers will receive a receipt. They must show that receipt (printed or on their phone) to airline staff or port of entry officials.

These requirements are designed to ensure that dogs entering or returning to the United States are healthy, properly vaccinated against rabies, and identifiable through microchipping.
