🐝Biodiversity loss is rising in Canada and it's affecting our food sources, waterways and all of our natural resources. Fortunately, there are ways to help slow and (hopefully!) reverse the devastating effects of biodiversity loss.

Read our latest article (link below!) for easy steps you can take to 🛑stop biodiversity loss in your community.

A heartfelt🥰 gratitude to the wonderful people at Pollinator Partnership Canada for generously providing this article for us to share.

🐝Did you know that every third bite of food you eat is made possible by a pollinator? Yes, about 35% of the worlds crop production is due to living and buzzing 🐝🦋🦇pollinators!

🐝The United Nations Environment program states that, “.. of the 100 crop varieties that provide 90% of the worlds food, 71 of those crops are pollinated by bees.”

Isn’t that amazing?

It’s astounding to think that without living pollinators, such as honey bees, hummingbirds, moths, butterflies, and even yellow-jacket wasps, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy most fruits and vegetables.

Can you even imagine a summer without a fresh bowl of ripe berries, crisp cucumber sandwiches, or the taste of a hearty homegrown potato? 🤯Nope, no thank-you!

That is one of the reasons why it’s 💯crucial to take the necessary steps needed to support and protect hardworking bees and pollinators that live in our gardens and around the globe.

Here are 5 simple and easy ideas you can do to show your love for pollinators ( and good, fresh food!)

🐝Add pollinator friendly plants to your garden such as lavender, a butterfly bush, or a long-blooming rose bush.

🐝Don’t use pesticides on your garden, lawn or property.

🐝Leave dandelions alone in spring! Early dandelions are often a first source of pollen for pollinators after winter.

🐝Purchase products that support pollinator protectors. Proceeds from the sale of our eco cloths go directly to Pollinator Partnership of Canada

🐝Educate your family on the importance of protecting the bees.

Are there other initiatives you and your family take to bring awareness and support for bees? Share them in the comments!

😊It’s Millstone Monday!
Easter is just a🐣 few sleeps away!

Do you have young egg hunters that are super excited for Easter morning? 🐰🌼🐰

If so, take a look at a few ideas we have to help this year’s Easter baskets a little more gentle on our earth and local resources.

🐣Use shredded newspaper or flyers to stuff baskets instead of plastic grass. Once done, toss the paper into the compost and save the landfill from being stuffed with more single-use plastics.

🌸Re-use plastic eggs. If you can’t do away with plastic eggs, be sure to re-use ones from previous years.

🍭Purchase bulk candy and avoid treats overflowing with wasteful packaging.

🌿Consider re-usable basket ideas instead of heavily dyed, wicker ones. Try a mason jar, tin pail that can be turned into a spring planter, or even an old shoebox!

🌿What green ideas do you incorporate into your family’s Easter baskets? Share them in the comments below!😊

What is GOTS certified organic cotton? Good question. Let’s dig in….🌻

First, GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard. It is THE textile processing standard of organically grown fibres used around the world.

Second, textile products made with GOTS certified materials, a GOTS certified textile is made to:

🌱meet stringent environmental and toxicological criterias.
🌱Meet labour conditions that reduce chemical exposures and support safe working conditions.
🌱Utilise organically grown cotton in every step of the production process.

And, finally, GOTS certified organic cotton is completely compostable. That means, when GOTS certified t-shirts, linens, dish towels, socks, or any other GOTS textile, has exhausted its lifecycle, it can be placed in a compost bin instead of a landfill.

As you know, we aspire to live with purpose and maintain as gentle🐑 a presence as possible at Millstone Farm and we are grateful that we can incorporate GOTS textiles into our daily life and product offerings.

What GOTS certified organics do you use in your home? Let us know in the comments below!🥰

It’s Millstone Monday!

As we start another week we have chosen to focus our Millstone Monday’s on Hope, Compassion, Kindness & Community.. some of the greatest gifts we can give one another! 🥰

Often it’s when hearing about the life-changing work others are doing, we find purpose in life and a way to help make a difference in the world, both locally and abroad.

The organizers have sent a generous amount of hygiene packages to be distributed at the Poland-Ukrainian border to Ukrainian citizens displaced by the current conflict in the region.

In addition to aiding members of our local community, Soap for Hope has recently stepped up to help the global community in a big way.

For more information on how to support Soap for Hope, visit their website.

“As the years pass, I am coming more and more to understand that it is the common, everyday blessings of our common everyday lives for which we should be particularly grateful.

They are the things that fill our lives with comfort and our hearts with gladness -- just the pure air to breathe and the strength to breath it; just warmth and shelter and home folks; just plain food that gives us strength; the bright sunshine on a cold day; and a cool breeze when the day is warm.”

Happy Millstone Monday!🍓🙋

We’re looking forward to starting our vertical strawberry 🍓garden this March. We favour vertical gardening where we can. This is because it supports our resolve to live purposefully and be kind to the earth.

Vertical gardening is an excellent way of gardening because it allows the farm to:

🍓grow more crops in less space
🍓Use less water
🍓Adapt to changing climates more easily
🍓Reduce costs and energy needed to grow food.

Growing food doesn’t have to be expensive or require large areas of land.

To learn more about vertical gardening and explore how to start your own vertical farm, stop by Millstone Farm this spring or visit

💓It’s MillstoneMonday! 💓
This week we’re sharing a few tips on zero waste living.

What is zero waste living? It’s based on the belief that there is no such thing as “waste” in 🌻nature. Zero waste living is designed to re-introduce that balance in our daily lives.

Why do we choose a zero waste lifestyle?
🌻We believe we are responsible for protecting the land we live on.
🌻We want to sustain our earth for future generations.
🌻We love the “simple” life!
🌻We love our animals.

On our farm, we reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible. ♻️We also seek out and prioritize the use of sustainable materials.

To learn more about our zero-waste farm, and to shop our sustainably produced products, visit our website.

Fresh farm eggs? 🥚🥰Yes please!

🥚Are you one of the growing crowd who believes almost nothing compares to the rich taste of a wholesome, fresh, organic egg? At Millstone Farm, we deeply appreciate our hens that generously lay what many have claimed to be“the best” eggs they have tasted!

🥚We can’t say for certain why our eggs sell out so fast, but, we like to think it has something to do with having happy hens that feast on organic grains and spend their days free-ranging on the pasture.

🥚To experience the freshness and taste of a Millstone Farm egg, visit our farm store in North Saanich. Or, pick up a dozen from in Victoria, BC. Don’t forget to try our sustainable, zero-waste and reusable egg carton at the same time!
