We are really excited to introduce Michelle and her German Shepard Thor🎉🎉. Michelle has a lot of experience as a SAR K9 Handler, she has had previous dogs that were BC Search Dog Association vallidated. Thor was originally trained as a search dog but when Michelle’s son was diagnosed with autism she switched their training and Thor is now a validated guide/service dog.
Now with Northern Search Dogs Michelle no longer has to do the 3 hr return trip to her local SAR team, so she is excited to once again return to K9 SAR 😀🐾.

Introducing Sky and her handler Aidan! They are both new to SAR but Aidan has previous experience as a JIBC Handler. We are excited to have them join our team. 🐾🎉🐾

Introducing Ryan and this is his partner in crime BAREE. Baree is a 5yo GSD and they have been a team since Baree’s earliest days. Baree and Ryan have spent countless hours training in finding objects and search. They are both excited for this new opportunity and are eager to participate for the next couple years before Baree’s retirement.

Introducing Val and this is her 1.5 year old Australian Kelpie named IV, like the roman numeral four but pronounced ivy. They are very excited to pursue this SAR opportunity with Northern Search Dogs! IV might be small but she's mighty. She's an extremely friendly girl who gives 110% into everything she does.

My name is Chris I am the Head Trainer/Founder of Northern Search Dogs. I have been training dogs for over 20 years and look forward to helping the rest of our team with their training.

Meet Cruz. Cruz is a 5 year old Border Collie. I was working with Cruz as a SAR dog, until last winter he reaggravated a neck injury. We decided it would be best for Cruz to not be a working dog anymore after that. He is a great worker and loves shaping exercises, so I will be featuring him in some how to videos in the near future.

Aug 5, 2021. Searching for a coworkers shirt. 429 meters in 2 and a half min. Trail/road search. Sorry for the bad camera work, I had to run pretty hard to keep up this time.

Meet Ness Lake’s Finn It To Win It. Finn is a 3 year old yellow lab from Ness Lake Retrievers. Finn is unique because he was not bred to be a working dog, he was bred as a therapy dog/couch potato. However when the border collie I was working got injured Finn got his chance. While he might pick somethings up a little slower, and have a bit less drive, he is a wonderful partner. Hands down the friendliest dog I have ever worked with. I hope Finn can be a great example of how any dog, with some work, can have fun searching.

A video from back in March. You will notice that Finn seems like he is going all over the place. This is him trying to pick up human scent. Sometimes he will have the scent but loose it, so he will go back to where he last smelled it. Near the end of the video you can see Finn’s body language change once he is confident in their location.

A search with a swim 🏊‍♂️ 🐾. Wind direction plays a major role in the dogs picking up scent.
