Have you ever heard of Blue-Green Algae? 🤔💦 Chloe, one of our Vet Nurses, explains:
'Blue-Green Algae (Cyanobacteria) typically forms on slow-moving and stagnant waterways, such as ponds, streams and reservoirs, in the Summer. While not all Blue-Green Algae is toxic to dogs, many unfortunately are and will require quick veterinary intervention to avoid long-term liver damage and fatalities.
Common signs to be aware of after ingesting Blue-Green Algae, often seen in minutes to hours, include vomiting, diarrhoea, breathing difficulty and neurological symptoms such as lethargy, disorientation, weakness and even seizures.
If you think your pet has ingested Blue-Green Algae contact your local veterinary practice or nearest Vets Now clinic for urgent advice; our nurses are on hand each night, weekend and bank holiday to provide advice and initial assessment as typically, these things are the most common while we enjoy the better weather and our pooches take a dip to cool down!'
