Today is National Day of Charity, so we thought we would take the opportunity to highlight the incredible work our charity of the year, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, do all year round.
Don’t forget, you can add a donation via Pennies when you pay by card at your next appointment. Just a small donation can help deaf people escape isolation and reconnect with life. Thank you.

Heat stress starts as a reversible condition, but if not managed it will develop to heat stroke, which is extremely dangerous.
If your pet shows any of these signs, they should be moved to a cool area and offered plenty of water to drink.

Unlike us, pets have no understanding that hot weather can be harmful.
We control their environment, their access to water and their exercise, and they can’t speak up if they start feeling unwell.
Heat stroke can rapidly progress and, even with veterinary treatment, is often fatal.

Deafness is rising in the UK; by 2035, it is estimated that one in five British people (over 15 million) will experience hearing loss. Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a national charity that trains dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds like the smoke alarm, alarm clock and even a baby’s cry. Their burgundy coats also act as a visual reminder to the public when they are out and about that their partner is deaf. Donations raised through Pennies when you pay by card help support Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
Just a small donation can make a big difference!

Since you cannot check your rabbit’s teeth at home, it is important to look out for signs of dental disease. There are many things that you can look out for that might indicate that your rabbit has some sort of dental health issue If you notice any of these signs, it is important that you bring your rabbit to your vet for an oral assessment as soon as possible. Stopping eating altogether is an emergency.

Flystrike happens more often in warm weather, and in rabbits who have soiled fur (often due to poor diet, obesity or arthritis). Throughout the spring and summer rabbits must be checked twice daily and any soiled fur cleaned. If you find any sign of fly eggs or maggots you must arrange for your rabbit to see a vet as soon as possible.

Microchipping rabbits is not a legal requirement but is strongly recommended. Rabbits are excellent escape artists and, if they manage to escape the garden, it can be difficult to identify where they have come from.

**Advice if you find a young bird**

If you find a young bird and you are not sure if it needs help or not, please follow the advice from the RSPCA Mallydams below.
If you are advised to take it to a Vets, you are more than welcome to bring it to us but please give us a call first on 01227 765522

‼️Gull Chicks‼️

This time of year, you may find gull chicks on the floor that are still too young to fly. The best thing to do for healthy chicks is get them back onto the roof they came from, back with their parents, together in the wild. If they are injured, please call us on 🔹0300 123 0723🔹 or bring them to your nearest vet.

Young gulls can also be placed on nearby high surfaces, such as a shed or conservatory roof. An umbrella can be used as a shield if the adults are anxious about their baby being handled. The parents will protect their chicks from predators.

If you are unsure what to do, or have any concerns, you can call us on 🔹0300 123 0723🔹or message our facebook, and we can advise you on next steps. If you don't get through first try, please try again - our wildlife team answers phones as well as looking after patients, so sometimes we may have our hands full at that moment.

Neutering means removing the reproductive organs; this is either the ovaries in females (known as spaying) or the testicles in males (known as castration). Neutering is a routine procedure that does not require overnight hospitalisation, with an average recovery time of 5-10 days.

Both indoor and outdoor rabbits require vaccinations to keep them safe from infectious disease. Young rabbits are particularly vulnerable to serious illnesses, so it’s important to get them vaccinated early. Rabbits can be vaccinated from five weeks old and will need yearly booster vaccinations throughout their life to maintain immunity.

There is no denying the fact that dogs can help to alleviate stress in the workplace. In fact, a survey conducted by The Kennel Club revealed that 70% of people think dogs reduce stress within a working environment, and even stroking a dog is said to reduce blood pressure.
Is your four-legged friend taking a trip to your workplace today?

UPDATE: Unfortunately we did not locate the owner or her puppies. The sweet little girl has now gone to be looked after somewhere else, hopefully we will find out where she belongs soon.

**Help needed**
We urgently need to find the owners of a Golden female dog that has been found in the New Dover road area of Canterbury.
She has recently given birth and we believe there will be puppies somewhere that need to be reunited with their Mum. She looks well cared but her chip details are not up to date.

If you know who this dog belongs to or if you think she is yours, please call the Minight vet team on 01227 941140

proof of ownership will be required
