Why is a Wellness Screening recommended?
Wellness Screening is recommended in healthy adult cats and dogs to aid early detection of disease and help them to live happier and healthier lives.
Is your pet suitable for a Wellness Screening?
Wellness Screening is suitable for healthy adult cats and dogs - if your pet is showing any signs or symptoms of disease, or any abnormal behaviour, you should have a check up with your vet first.
Adult pets are:
β’ Cats over 7 years old
β’ Dogs over 5 years
β’ Giant breeds of dog (Great Dane, Mastiff, St. Bernard, etc.) over 3 years
Your appointment will last around 25-30 minutes but this could vary depending on the individual patient.
What is included in a Wellness Screening?
A physical exam, a complete clinical history, urine testing, a blood pressure measurement and blood testing for all common organ function-related diseases including:
β’ Kidney disease
β’ Liver disease
β’ Diabetes
β’ High Blood Pressure
β’ Overactive thyroid (cats only)

β’ It is ideal if pets are fasted for 12 hours before their appointment (no food but allowed access to water).
β’ A fresh urine sample should be brought to the appointment in a clean, dry container. For advice on collecting urine samples, please contact your practice.
β’ If you are unable to undertake either of the points above, please attend your appointment and the team will advise you further.
β’ The person bringing your pet to the appointment should be familiar with their health issues, habits, and routines.
β’ You will receive your results within 10 days of the screening. If all is well, you will receive a text or email from your practice team.
β’ If there are any abnormal results, the practice team will be in touch to arrange for a vet to discuss the next steps. This may include a recommendation for a change of diet, medication or further investigat
