Let’s talk 🐶 🐾
We all know our dogs. Some can’t bear to leave their humans. Some will go off with anyone. Some treat going to the vets like going to the seaside, Others like it is their worst nightmare.

This applies when visiting the groomers. Some absolutely love the attention and thoroughly enjoy a good cuddle thrown in. Others struggle with being brushed, bathed, having nails trimmed or generally being in an environment away from home.

With this in mind KNOW YOUR DOG and plan your grooming schedule to keep the experience as positive as possible. We have lots of conversations around their dogs and their lifestyles and most owners have realistic expectations.

If your dog doesn’t like you brushing it or you don’t have time, it will become matted / knotted. A groomer can’t wave a magic wand. But by coming regularly this can keep this to a minimum and a short well kept coat is a lot easier to detangle a little knot/matt than trying to removes ones that have built up over months.

Some owners like the long and fluffy look. This is this the hardest coat to maintain. This requires contestant brushing twice daily and regular baths. A dog especially doodle types with a long coat which isn't prepped in this way will be be matted. if you cant run a comb through the coat there is no way the standard clipper blade can go through it and will lead to a shave off.

We have a duty of care under the animal welfare act not to deliberately cause pain or injury. So when dealing with matts they often need to be clipped out and if tight to the skin could cause a skin irritation or worse. The end result will not be the groom either a groomer or owner would want to for the dog.

Another aspect when dealing with dogs that are matted is the extra cost a groomer incurs such replacing the blades that are blunted through clipping the matt. The extra time it takes to groom the dog means working at a loss when we factor in products and utilities. Imagine going to a hairdressers after not brushing your hair for a couple of months and still paying the same price for double the time and work.

Another thing we often get asked is can you trim the nails? Providing the dog is happy for us to trim their nails we will and we have a few tricks for those who are not so happy. But under no circumstances will we cause distress and will recommend a vet to trim if this is the case. We cant trim further than the blood flow. so if your dogs nails are long because they haven't been groomed we can't suddenly make them short again. What we can do however is trim nails in between grooms if needed ( no extra charge)

Those with puppies

Positive exposure is key for pups that will need to have regular visits to the groomers through out it adult life. Puppy pampers are really important in creating that positive connection for the puppy when visiting a groomer and preparing them for what this entails

Suggested schedules
Doodle breeds between 6- 8 weeks ( dependent on coat some are more and some are less frequent)
Cocker spaniels 8- 10 weeks dependent on coat type
S**t Tzu every 6-8 weeks
Short hair breeds as when but check nails
Puppies from vaccinated regular baths and nail trims

Dogs that are not kept to a pre discussed schedule will incur an extra charge if matted or extra time needs allocating to complete the groom

Our first job from returning from our holiday was to pamper the princess.
Mavis has had a fantastic time while we have been away. Wild swimming, fun park, a trip to the beach, ( not sure if she built a sand castle and play dates with her friends. A big thank you to Mavis bestie Emmie for all the amazing work you do with Mavis. 🐾

The lovely Freddy came for a visit. He a country boy who loves nothing more than running through fields and getting wet. Freddy comes every 6 weeks and has a short clip to keep him in tip top shape for his country lifestyle.
