🌾 Grass seeds are small but can cause BIG problems for pets 🌾

They can get caught in their fur, stuck between their paws, in their eyes, up their nose or down their ears, as they run through long grass.
They cause irritation, inflammation and pain 😞

We advise a Vet check if your dog is showing the following signs
🌾 Shaking their head
🌾 Scratching their ears
🌾 Licking/chewing their paws
🌾 Excessive sneezing
🌾 Have any sores or swellings, or showing any signs of pain

So how can you prevent grass seed injuries??
🌾 Avoid walking your dog in long grass
🌾 Inspect them from head to tail after a walk and remove any seeds you find, paying particular attention to the feet and ears
🌾 Keep their fur well-groomed and ideally short (especially between their paws)

As always, if you have any concerns please contact the practice on 01622 734555

Could your dog be the next Sharwood? 🐶

Can you believe that this incredible dog has donated blood 40 times?! The first ever dog in the UK to do so 😱

Since becoming a lifesaver with Pet Blood Bank in 2017, Sharwood, with the help of his dedicated owner, Sue, has:
🩸 Donated every single time!
🐶 Helped to save the lives of up to 160 dogs
⚖ Donated a total of 22.5kg of blood

Now, Sharwood is heading off for a well-deserved retirement and more dogs are needed to follow in his paw prints 😇

Pet Blood Bank would love to hear from anyone with a happy and confident dog, aged between 1 and 8, and over 25kg.

If your furry friend fits this description, they have the potential to become a lifesaver ❤
Visit Pet Blood Bank’s website to find out more and join the pack today 🐶 www.petbloodbankuk.org/welcome

Lets have a FriYay moment by saying hello to this little boy 🐱😍
Sidney, he came into our hospital recently to visit our Vet Dave for his first kitten check.
Dave checked him over, gave him his first vaccination, advised his owner on castration, microchipping and worming. He was a very good boy for Dave 🥰🥰

Microchips are a standard practice for pet identification as they are reliable and permanent, unlike collars and tags. However, a microchip is only effective if the information it contains is accurate.

Many pet owners neglect to update their pet’s microchip contact information, making it ineffective. 🐶🐱🐰

So on we are encouraging pet owners to verify and update their pet’s microchip details; helping in reuniting lost pets and ensuring continuous protection.

So why are we telling you about 'Check the chip day'

Updating microchip information boosts the chances of reuniting with your pet if they go missing.

Knowing that your pet’s microchip information is accurate provides peace of mind, allowing you to feel secure in the knowledge that your pet is protected.

Is your pets microchip contact details up to date??
✅ Yes - excellent!! Share this post to spread awareness to others
❌ No - don't panic, search for your pets microchip number on the link below to find out what company it is registered with - then you can contact them to update your contact details
https://www.petlog.org.uk/look-up-a-microchip/

📧 For more information on microchipping your pet, email us at [email protected].
📞 To book your pet in for microchipping, call us on 01622 734555

Are you looking to travel abroad with your pet this summer? If you are, you will be required to obtain an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) for them.

An AHC needs to be issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV) and not every practice has one.

We do not have any OV in our hospital, so advise our clients to look at the link below, the government website has a list of practices available to provide your pet with their Animal Health Certificate.

Seasonal Canine Illness is a disease seen in dogs within a few days of walking in a woodland area. The cause is unknown and there is no cure.....

This mystery illness only seems to affect dogs in the late summer and autumn months, with most cases being seen between August and November.

The main symptoms include:
🐶 Vomiting
🐶 Diarrhoea
🐶 Tiredness
🐶 Abdominal pain
🐶 Fever

While there is no cure, the symptoms can be alleviated and most dogs will recover if they are treated early.

It is important to remember thats cases are extremely rare, but if your dog does present with symptoms, they will need urgent veterinary care, so please call us on 01622 734555 if you have any worries or concerns.

Imagine you are deaf.
🦻 You can’t hear your smoke alarm or alarm clock.
🦻 You can’t hear your text messages.
🦻 You miss out on social interactions.

That’s what life is like for deaf people, and it can be very isolating. 🦻🐕‍🦺 A hearing dog can make a big difference.

You can help our charity of the year – Hearing Dogs for Deaf People – help a
deaf person leave loneliness behind, by adding a donation via Pennies when you pay by card. Just a small donation can help deaf people escape isolation and reconnect with life.

Thank you 🥰🥰

It's amazing to see how much CVS practices have raised for Guide Dogs UK over the last year 😍😍🤩🤩

We are so proud to be a part of their fundraising total; as a practice we have organised raffle hampers, collection tins and dog treat bags which raised £492.
Donations from clients paying by card via Pennies has raised a further £548.98, bringing our total to £1040.98.

So thank you to all our clients who have donated/contributed over the last year 🥰🥰 what a great charity to support!!

A massive thank you to everyone who got involved with fundraising for our outgoing colleagues’ charity of the year Guide Dogs UK.

We have made a £20,000 donation as result of the great fundraising activities that our colleague have taken part in throughout the year.

This year’s fundraising has been bolstered by the phased rollout of the Pennies micro-donation service across our companion animal first opinion and referral sites. Pennies gives clients paying by chip and pin the option to round their payment up to the nearest whole pound, meaning donations could be anything between 1p and 99p. We’re pleased to reveal that Guide Dogs UK will receive £48,000 via the Pennies scheme!

Our outgoing colleagues’ charity will now receive a final total donation of £68,000, which is a fantastic result!

Guide Dogs UK are delighted and very grateful for our colleagues’ support.

Unlike us, pets have no understanding that hot weather can be harmful 🐶🐱🐰🥵🤒

We control their environment, their access to water and their exercise, and they can’t speak up if they start feeling unwell.
🤒 Heat stroke can rapidly progress and, even with veterinary treatment, is often fatal.

Heat stress starts as a reversible condition, but if not managed it will develop to heat stroke, which is extremely dangerous.

🌞 If your pet shows any of these signs, they should be moved to a cool area and offered plenty of water to drink.

Today is ❤️🐶 where we celebrate the adorable little furballs known as Yorkshire Terriers!

These pint-sized pups may be small in stature, but they make up for it with their big personalities.
These dainty dogs were originally bred in the 19th century to catch rats in clothing mills. But before long, they wormed their way into the hearts of people everywhere with their adorable looks and spunky personalities.
These little dynamos are fiercely loyal and make excellent companions for individuals and families alike.

So happy Yorkie Day to all our favourite Yorkies 🥰🥰

🦻 Deafness can be a very isolating disability, so a hearing dog offers constant companionship and emotional support, giving deaf people the confidence to reconnect with their family, friends and community around them. 🦻

This combination of practical assistance and lifelong friendship can be completely life-changing. 🥰🥰

We are fundraising for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People!! Round up your payment when paying by card in our hospital, speak to a colleague for more information.

🦻 Deafness is rising in the UK; by 2035, it is estimated that one in five British people (over 15 million) will experience hearing loss 🦻

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a national charity that trains dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds like the smoke alarm, alarm clock and even a baby’s cry.

Their burgundy coats also act as a visual reminder to the public when they are out and about that their partner is deaf.

Hearing Dogs has been chosen as the new for 2024-2025 and we will be fundraising for them over the next year 🤩🤩
