Heat stress starts as a reversible condition, but if not managed it will develop to heat stroke, which is extremely dangerous.
If your pet shows any of these signs, they should be moved to a cool area and offered plenty of water to drink.

Please allow plenty of time to order any medications, prescriptions or food so you will not run out over the bank holiday!

Wednesday the 21st will be the last day to order medications and food to ensure you get it before the bank holiday.

Are you looking to travel abroad with your pet this summer? If you are, you will be required to obtain an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) for them.

An AHC needs to be issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV). Check with your veterinary practice to see if they have a qualified OV because not every practice will have one.

Success Story Sunday! 🥳 **Viewers discretion advised**

Meet Blu! Blu is a 1 year old cream Chow Chow and her owners had brought her into the practice after being referred to us after her own vets had noticed her left eye was very irritated from excess skin.

After an initial consultation, it was made clear that Blu needed to have entropian surgery. An entropion is a condition in which your eyelid turns inward and rubs against your eye surface which can causing irritation, pain, vision loss and corneal damage. Entropian surgery is specialist surgery. Blu came back at a later date to us to have the procedure done to avoid anymore discomfort.

Thankfully post surgery, Blu is happy, healthy and free of any more eye discomfort🐶

Unlike us, pets have no understanding that hot weather can be harmful. We control their environment, their access to water and their exercise, and they can’t speak up if they start feeling unwell. Heat stroke can rapidly progress and, even with veterinary treatment, is often fatal.

In accordance with the new XL-Bully Ban, it may be coming up to your deadline for neutering

If your XL-bully was at least 7 months old but less than 12 months old by the 31st of January 2024, they will need to be neutered by the 31st of December 2024

Please allow plenty of time to book neutering surgeries, as waiting times can be up to 2 weeks.

We do not want you to miss the deadline!

🌿❗️Information on Grass Seeds ❗🌿

Grass seeds are small, pointy seeds that are attached to the top of long grass stems. The are often found in meadows and woodlands during summer months and they can cause serious problems are dogs on during their walks.

Grass seeds have sharp ends, so although they are small, if they become trapped in your dogs fur, they can burrow down and pierce their skin. They can also get stuck in your dogs paws, ears, eyes and nose. If your dog becomes injured by a grass seed, it can be very painful.
In rare cases, grass seeds can go underneath the skin and travel to other areas of your dogs body, for example their chest. Once they are under the skin, they can be very difficult to find.

It is a good idea to check your dogs feet and ear for grass seeds after exercise, especially if you have gone through woodlands or areas with long grass
