Lucy has been professionally immersed in non-human animal behaviour for over 25 years – formally working in wildlife filmmaking then studying two MSc’s and a PhD. As a fully qualified dog behaviourist, she works in a non-forceful way that respects each dog as a unique individual while using the best modern, scientifically validated techniques available. She studied sniffing as a tool for reducing stress in pet dogs (MSc, Distinction, Newcastle University) which sparked her passion for all things scent related. Specialising in working with fearful, anxious and ‘reactive’ dogs she knows first-hand what an incredibly powerful tool nose-work can be for behaviour change – also using it as a tool to enrich and build calm confidence in her own 4 rescue collies. She is privileged to have studied operational scent-detection methods with some of the most highly respected operational professionals in the world, and is currently completing a 1-year professional detection dog handler course with the Scandinavian Working Dog Institute – a world leader in operational scent detection methods. Above all, she firmly believes that encouraging sniffing is one of the most powerful and important things we can do for the welfare of dogs – all dogs.
