Just a reminder from Otto and Pixie that I am off this week 26th Aug - 1st Sept pampering them.

I will be off from Thursday 12th Sept - Sun 15th Sept as I will moving my daughter into Halls of residence ready for her starting Uni.

Just a reminder, starting this Saturday, I will be on a Staycation. It's a time dedicated to being with my family and dogs, getting my car repaired, and simply relaxing.

I'll be checking messages intermittently, so if I don't respond promptly, I will do so when I return on September 2nd.

Today I am grateful NOT to be working in clinic. No not to enjoy the sunshine, but to be away from the devastation that heatstroke still causes despite multiple warnings. I am grateful not to be battling to save lives, and witnessing unnecessary deaths of wonderful dogs who would have quite happily missed a walk today.

To all my veterinary colleagues, I just hope you do not have to see too many tragedies today. Sending lots of love and healing as it’s part of our job which should no longer be part of our job and has a huge negative mental impact.

"Well he’s never done that before!" 😲 Have you ever caught yourself saying that as your dog does something unexpected and out of character?

Perhaps you find your dog’s behaviour gets worse as they near the end of a walk 🚶‍♂️🐾 - or after a particularly exciting, or stressful event 🎉😬.

Have you ever wondered why? 🤔

Just like humans, dogs have stress thresholds. Imagine this like a bucket 🪣.

This bucket represents your dog’s capacity to deal with the events of the day.

Many things pay into your dog’s bucket. In fact, every experience, whether it’s a positive one, or a negative, scary, or stressful one, will add to your dog’s bucket. Some dogs have very big buckets which fill slowly and empty quickly 🌊. Others find life pretty exciting, or overwhelming. These dogs tend to have smaller buckets that fill fast and empty slowly.

Pain, itching, and tummy troubles can fill your dog’s bucket too 🐕‍🦺😕 - so dogs who have painful joints, allergies, or sensitive digestion will often have pretty full buckets.

As your dog’s bucket fills, you’ll often find their choices and behaviour get worse.

The great news is that you have control over a lot of the things that fill your dog’s bucket by thinking about their lifestyle and the situations you put them in. You can also influence the size of your dog’s bucket - and the size of the hole in the bottom that allows it to empty - by playing simple, fun, effective games that target concepts like calmness, optimism, and thinking in arousal 🎮🐶 - those building blocks of your dog’s brain 🧠.

So, when your dog is having a hard time (not giving you a hard time), remember to consider how full their bucket might be… And if you’re not sure how to help them empty it, or how to make it bigger, Games Club is full of games and strategies that will help! 🏆🎲🐕

With the weather starting to get hotter I will go to my hot weather plan.
Which will be earlier walks for dogs whose owners are working from home, visits to shaded areas and garden visits.

Some walks might be switched around as I have one where owner works from home and their dog is walked from the home which will mean walking on pavement.

6/6/24 Missing 18 week old cocker.
Indy is missing on the kiwi side of the Bulford to Tidworth range road (Tidworth road)
She has been missing since 9.40am.
It is strongly believed she is in hiding. She is not likely to have gone too far. Plans have been put In place for this evening.

It’s very important for Indy that the area is not flooded with well meaning searchers. We’d like to give her the opportunity to come out of hiding freely otherwise she might be pushed further away.

Given her age there is a chance we will call upon the general public tomorrow however and for now we’d like to keep the area as calm and as quiet as we can.

If you see Indy please call the number below or of course call/message us.

Please allow her to move freely. If safe to do so please allow her the time to come to you. Be patient. Throw out little treats if you have them. Crouch or Sit low to the ground. Avoid eye contact. Please do not call or chase her. She will run and go back to ground.

It is great sadness that on Friday Norman passed over the Rainbow Bridge following a short but painful illness. Surrounded by his family.

Norman joined us in Dec 2017 to have some amazing adventures with me, he fitted in so well and fell in love with miss Tegan, they love nothing better than to have a Muddy Puddle Party. Norman moved away on 2021 to the France while his family were poste to Oman for 2yrs, I was so happy to have Norman back for walks last year, even Tegan was happy to have Norman back joining her for walks.

We will always miss Norman.
