Over the last few months one of my dogs has been very poorly, turned out he was suffering from pancreatitis & slightly raised Kidney levels. Two months on we have had to return to vets where we dd a blood test to check his kidney levels, which I suspected had risen well results came back on Friday morning and yes they are sadly higher and that he has Stage 1 Kidney Disease, this means we need to switch him to a completely new diet.
Owning a dog with food issues, such as suspicious of dog food , can be challenging., I have spent Thursday and Friday researching the best diet for him as Vet Prescription food can be very bland for dogs which is not good for a dog like Otto, so I have decided to do a mix of vet prescription food so far we are trying to brands one being Rocco's Beef, chicken heart and Pumpkin (which he likes) and the other is Concept for Life Veterinary Diet Renal yet to try this one and doing some homecooked meals using The Dog Nutritionist Renal guide too.
Due to also increasing his water intake and foods, I will be planning my work days so that I can come home to let him out etc more often.
We have limited spaces for Dog Training Walks in August, so hurry and get booked in.

I would to share with you who inspired me to become a Dog Trainer.
Having a dog that was dog reactive can be hard and finding a trainer that under stood me and my dog was very hard.
In 2013 while on Facebook I found Langman from absoluteDOGS, the energy was just what I needed to get me more motivated to help my dog, I signed up to their then Training Academy and loved and started to use their games to help my dog then the dogs I was walking as a dog walker, it was when I started dog walking I wanted to become a dog trainer, but looked around at trainer course but just could not find on that I could afford or was a right fit for me.
In 2017 AbsoluteDOGS released their Pro Dog Trainer course but felt I was not good enough to do it. Lauren posted and said in lives that we can do anything and that we are good enough not matter what age or background we have.
I have since done many course and zoom training with Lauren and her team and have always come away more knowledgeable and believing in myself. This is all thanks to Lauren

I would love to share a list of my favourite tools that I love to use when training dogs
1/ Harness with 2 points of contact
2/ BioThane double ended lead i.e. Training lead
3/ Bio Thane long line- these are great as you don't get burns on your hands when pulled
4/ Good quality dog food/ treats
5/ Cones and poles
6/ Collection of recycling
7/ Something to use as a boundary i.e. a bed with side, bath mat
8/ Change of clothing should I get wet or muddy
9/Dog whistle
10/ Knowledge of some good foundation games
What methods have you tried to curb your dog's bad habits?
I recall when my Otto was younger, he had a habit of counter surfing in the kitchen whenever I was away. This was before my training days, and like many, I scoured YouTube for solutions. One video suggested tying bacon fat to soda cans, so the noise would deter the dog when they went for the fat. Unfortunately, Otto simply bit off the fat without disturbing the cans. 😄
Fortunately, he no longer counter surfs as he has learned to refrain from it on his own.

What is a success in my field of expertise?
Well it is when a client tells me they dog no longer pulls or has stop barking when people come in their home or when you can go for brunch as your dog is happy to sit and watch the pony.
Success is when my own dog stops barking at the neighbours dog that is always barking.
When I hear how my clients are doing it means I a great dog trainer and my training is helping to make theirs better
Today I am grateful NOT to be working in clinic. No not to enjoy the sunshine, but to be away from the devastation that heatstroke still causes despite multiple warnings. I am grateful not to be battling to save lives, and witnessing unnecessary deaths of wonderful dogs who would have quite happily missed a walk today.
To all my veterinary colleagues, I just hope you do not have to see too many tragedies today. Sending lots of love and healing as it’s part of our job which should no longer be part of our job and has a huge negative mental impact.

Well after attending a live on keeping your dogs lives enriched I made a frozen bone broth block, had grated carrots, some Fresh K9 from AOK9 to help keep Otto hydrated.

While I have been away on a trainer retreat, I set my self a challenge of teaching Pixie my 13yr old Yorkie Middle. Pixie is also deaf and has poor eye sight. Wanted to prove you CAN teach an old dog new tricks.
