We're so delighted that the charity we will be supporting at this year's Dog Fete is Dogs 💙. This incredible charity is dedicated to improving the independence and quality of life for adults and children with a range of medical conditions by providing and training specialist assistance dogs 🥰.

The main three areas they specialise in are:

🐕 Autism Assistance Dogs for children with autism, providing safety and reducing stress in social environments.

🐕 Seizure Alert Dogs for people with epilepsy. These incredible dogs are trained to be 100% reliable in providing a warning of a seizure 50 minutes prior to it's onset!

🐕 Disability Assistance Dogs for people with physical disabilities. These wonderful dogs begin their lives as pet dogs who are trained to specifically to meet individual needs, such as helping with dressing and un******ng, unloading the washing machine and raising the alarm.

This amazing charity will be joining us on Saturday with one of their wonderful dogs and there will be a chance here more about what they do when they take to our main arena at 12.45pm 😊.

All the profits Tower Vets make on the day will go this incredible charity 🥰 so come along, enter the dog show, play one of our fun games at the Tower stand, enter the raffle or simply donate to support this incredible cause 🥰🐕.

💙 Meet Steve the Seagull! 💙

This cheeky chap was brought in by a member of the public who found him unable to fly. After a full health check we found he was perfectly well, but unable to fly as he had left the nest a little early.

He quickly became a firm favourite with the team and went on quite the adventure (enjoying a train trip with one of our team! 🚂) to the wildlife centre where he will be cared for until he's big enough to return to the wild 🥰.

🐾💙 Little Blue was in for her monthly Puppy Journey appointment at our Fulford branch this week 💙🐾

Every pup with us is offered a monthly visit with one of our nurses to track growth 📈, practice the health care check to build confidence and of course get lots of treats too 🐕🥰!

Daisy was in our Acomb branch last week for her spay appointment. She has a heart murmur so we had her on oxygen for a little while before her procedure to keep everything as safe as possible 🥰.

As she happened to be the only inpatient that day she also had the full run of our nurse's consultation room, but decided to stay in the kennel 😂.

🐈👑❤️ A proper Cinderella story ❤️👑🐈

The wonderful little lady was handed into us a few weeks ago having been found hanging around a building site for some time 🧱. She was covered in building dust and materials, had a large wound on her face, alongside wounds on her legs and was extremely skinny 😥.

With no microchip and no signs of an owner coming forwards, it seemed likely she'd been out there for some time 😥.

The day we got her in she immediately curled up on the first comfy bed we got her, purred insanely loudly where we put in some food and as soon as she'd eaten finally began to wash 🥰. She just seemed so grateful for some TLC and before long became a firm favourite in our kennel room as she meowed and chirped at anyone passing. It wasn't long before she was named Cinderella 👑!

With no one coming forwards Cinderella didn't seem to have anywhere to go. But fortunately the lovely people who had found her offered her a new home and after some further health checks and medication they took her home last week ❤️ and named her Bambi! 🥰 The whole team were sad to see her go and all turned out to say their goodbyes.

We're so delighted everything worked out for our little princess and she's living the life she deserves ❤️🐈👑.

The other week we had a beautiful sparrow hawk brought to us by a member of public. It was examined by Nigel at our Haxby branch and despite seeming generally well, was unable to fly, and therefore unable to return to the wild 😢.

Fortunately we have now rehomed it to Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary to be cared for 😊.

Meet some of this month's gorgeous Puppy Pre-Schoolers: Bear, Ralph, Mabel and Milo 🥰🐕.

So far the Class of July 24 have built up their socialization skills, learnt more about how to develop their pup's habituation and have learnt introductory training principles.

This week we're on to one of our favourite topics: dog body language! This is the key to knowing how your dog is feeling and one of the more important things you can learn about in order to care for your dog's wellbeing 🥰

This amazing team specialising in canine hydrotherapy and rehabilitation believe the health, both mental and physical, of our canine companions, is of the utmost importance. Hydrotherapy can be beneficial for a range of conditions from arthritis and hip dysplasia, to obesity and surgery recovery. The team will be on hand throughout the day with their trusty paddling pool to keep pups cool and discuss how they can support your dog's needs.

SLC Veterinary Physiotherapy provides tailored treatments to meet the needs of each individual equine and canine patient. Simba, who runs SLC Physio, provides everything from massage, stretching, and myofascial release, infrared laser therapy and remedial exercises to rehabilitation plans and advice. Physiotherapy can be extremely beneficial for a range of conditions including hip dysplasia, cruciate ligament rupture and intervertebral disc disease and Simba will be available throughout the Dog Fete to chat about how he can help your dog and their unique needs.

🦔 Houdini the escaping hedgehog! 🦔

This little one was brought into our Haxby branch this week after a member of the public was worried about his health. He was popped safe in a good sized box in the office behind our reception while the team prepped his kennel, so we couldn't quite believe it when he'd found his way to our reception floor!! 😯🦔

Luckily, receptionist Erin was super fast and got him back to safety, this time he went straight into his kennel! He's staying with the team for the time being while he receives the care he needs 😊.

We use local anaesthetic before implanting microchips to ensure it's as easy and pain free as possible 😊🐾.

Little Alfie was utterly terrified when he used to come to the vets 😥. Shaking and even urinating in fear... But look at him now! 🥰 Nurse Linda has worked absolute wonders in her Confidence Clinics with Alfie, gradually gaining his trust and building his confidence at being handled 🐕. Alfie will now allow his heart to be listened to 🩺 and has even began to let another member of staff near him 🥰. In our Confidence Clinics we also introduce positive muzzle training to remove the fear around this for the dog 🐾. This is so that if an urgent medical situation occurs where a dog is still too terrified to let us near them, we can safely administer treatment without delay in as much of a fear free way as possible 😊. Meet Otodectes Cynotis, commonly known as the ear mite 👂! These oval shaped ectoparasites live deep with the ear canal causing a type of mange inside the ear of dogs and cats 🐕🐈. Your pet may show clinical signs such as a dark brown waxy discharge from the ear, shaking of the head, or rubbing of the ears. Our student nurse Amanda found this little guy after a swab was taken from the ear of a cat, transferred to a microscope slide, and then viewed under the microscope. Owners can help prevent ear mites by regularly checking your pets' ears and removing any build up of wax. We also supply a range of parasite treatments in practice. More wildlife having some tlc with our team today 🥰. This rock dove, who our VCA Holly has lovingly named Penelope, was found in Knaresborough yesterday off her legs 😢. When she tried to fly she just couldn't land 😢. Fortunately our team took her in and have been supporting her recovery yesterday and overnight. This morning we're delighted to say her talons are now able to grip and she's getting much stronger 😊. We're hoping to get her into a rescue centre later today so she can get back into the wild soon 🥰. Want to support our Stray and Wildlife Fund?
