This week is Dog Anxiety awareness week (6th-12th May) A good time to focus in on any behavioural changes that may have gone un-noticed or ignored previously. Although there are many reasons why your dog may be displaying anxious symptoms there IS help available. Seeking advice from your vet or certified animal behaviourist is the first step in putting an action plan together for a more relaxed, happy pooch. We have some products in clinic to help soothe those unwanted physical responses. Just reach out and we will be happy to help.

We have unfortunately had a deceased cat handed into us from a member of the public.
Female domestic short hair, black body with white paws, estimated between 1-3 years old.
They are microchipped but not registered.

🐰Watch out for any rascal pups around chocolate eggs which contain a kind of caffeine (theobromine) Ingesting this can lead to hyperactivity, seizures, vomiting, diarrhea and can even be fatal.

🐰Another Easter treat that should be kept for your enjoyment only are Hot Cross buns. Raisins are toxic to dogs and can cause kidney failure.

We have unfortunately had a deceased cat brought into us by a kind passerby.
They are a tricolour tabby, with a distinctive half-black half tabby face. Unfortunately not microchipped. They were found on Taniwha street.

Our good friends at Auckland Puppy Rescue are excited to introduce their Coffee Pups! They have 2 lovely little female pups ready for their furever homes.

These 4 Staffy breeds came into care after being found dumped in a box, at only 2 weeks old 😢

It is less than a month away from the dreaded fireworks season. Planning ahead can help our furry friends cope when those bigger bangs start to arrive.

Here are some tips to help you through this time:

1. Introduce a quiet safe haven in the house for them (such as a small bathroom.) Have their favourite blanket, toy and treats for them to explore so they can start to associate a positive experience with that environment.

2. Closer to the time, try to give your dog a really good walk during daylight hours. Both tiring them out and limiting exposure to the fireworks. Keep your cat inside in the evenings if you can so they don't get spooked and run off. Now is a great time to ensure your microchip details are all up to date.

3. On November 5th close the curtains & try some background noise to drown out those sudden bangs. Distract with food puzzles or toys.

4. Use a calming pheromone spray, diffuser or collar. Feliway & Adaptil offer great products to help calm your pet in times of distress. You can chat to us about which product would suit best.

5. Seek your vet's advice if you know your pet displays extreme anxiety or destructive behaviours.
