📡Announcement - Future of The Barkery.
It is with great sadness that we announce that The Barkery will be closing on October 31st. This has been an incredibly difficult and very sad decision - our hearts hurt today. Despite exploring all of our options and pouring time and energy into the Barkery, unfortunately, we are no longer able to financially support the Barkery’s growth, create a sustainable social enterprise, and offer the community the best version of The Barkery (the version you all deserve)!

We’ve absolutely loved meeting all of you and your pups over the last few years, and hearing firsthand that our work was actively helping dogs find a home through Christchurch - that’s what it’s all about. We truly feel like we have let the community down and wish we could continue to support you with our weekend operation.

We hope this isn’t a forever goodbye for the Barkery - we don’t know what the future holds - but it’s goodbye for now. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved, and now it’s time to focus on ourselves and our own doggos, and reflect on the journey.

We hope to celebrate what we have achieved and reminisce over our journey with you in these final three weekends. We are open to expressions of interest from people or organisations who would like to take over the operation of the Barkery.

🌞 Another stellar day to treat yourself and your dog! Some of you may have heard we had another break-in earlier this week where nothing was taken but all of our electrical cables were cut and sabotaged! After a cry for help KT Electrical Limited were on the scene in a matter of minutes - quickly replacing our cables and main board, ensuring we could be open for you this weekend! We couldn't do it without the amazing support of local businesses like KT so please give them a like and do your bit to support those that support our local community! 😀 🐾

Dogwatch Sanctuary Trust Adoption Day! 🐾😊
This Saturday we will have some gorgeous faces meeting us throughout the day. This means that the Training area is strictly off limits, limited to humans only. ZIAH - (1 year old BullMastiff X) 🐾
Ziah is a sweet and affectionate young dog who has started to gain her confidence while at the shelter. She can be sometimes be unsure when meeting new people but once she gets to know you, she can be cuddly, exuberant and playful. She absolutely loves her food and will try do anything for it! She would be best suited to a family with older dog savy children who are committed to her ongoing training and helping her flourish out in the community. With the weather starting to dampen our spirits, we are relieved to see some finer conditions this weekend 🤞 We would love to see you down Saturday and Sunday for a coffee and a pastrie - of course we will have our usual array of assorted dog treats, Barkery tees, bumper stickers and toys. HAPPY HUMPHREY 😊 🏡
After an awesome turn out for Billies 1st Birthday, we were excited to host a private event for Dogwatch Sanctuary Trust and the beloved Humphrey and his new family.

Humphrey had quite a negligent upbringing which meant he was isolated in his own world, afraid of humans and other dogs, ultimately getting himself into a panic over the smallest things. Due to these issues Humphrey (formerly Hunter) spent 3 years in the care of Dogwatch and the foster families. After a long slog of rehabilitation and determination on behalf of Dogwatch, last month we received the incredible news that we'd all been so desperate for. Humphrey had finally found his furever home 🥺 ❤

We remained open late into the afternoon so we could throw Humphrey his very own celebration - filled with pupcakes, puppaccinos, bubbles and sweet treats surrounded by those who played a significant role in Humphreys journey.

We loved playing a special part in his send off and are absolutely thrilled at this outcome. Congratulations to all involved (Particularly Christchurch City Council for giving dogs like Humphrey a chance with Dogwatch Sanctuary Trust) and good luck to Humphrey and his new family 🥰 Safe to say he looks pretty stoked, and of course we are over the moon for him! Woo-hoo!! 🥳

#PAWRENT #PUPDATE Kia ora Barkery Pack! Thanks again for all your support over the last few months particularly during our crowdfunding campaign - we made it!! We are still incredibly humbled by the energy and enthusiasm we gain from our audience. Since the campaign we've been working hard behind the scenes, securing sponsors and supporters and laying the groundwork for a successful Barkery build! 🏡 Last month we... Formally engaged an architect, a planning consultant, a design agency, and an engineer - all with their own awesome energy and skills to bring to the Pack! 🧐 We had our pre-application consultation with the good folk at Council, around Building and Resource consents. We launched our outreach campaign which you might have seen in Saturday's paper :) Welcomed NZ Chihuahua Rescue to the pack, and had over 12 meetings with stakeholders new and old! In the next month... We'll be holding our final round of design feedback with key stakeholders including our Rescue partners, Dog Trainers, Our Architects and Planners, Hospitality Consultants, Life in Vacant Spaces and Lawyers - to ensure we can get the most out of this space, iron out any gaps, challenges and concerns, and capitalise on opportunities the general public and our stakeholders may need! 💪 We'll be hunting down the best container fitout, building & materials supply, landscaping, and hospitality teams to join us for the next stage and bring the build to life. Wouldn't it be great if we could increase that number, and help more awesome dogs find their forever homes? How good would it be if we could achieve that, while also bringing a unique cafe experience to Christchurch locals? So... we created The Barkery! The Barkery will be an exciting cafe space where patrons can spend time with rescue dogs from across Canterbury, raising awareness for shelters and building connections through the magic of pats.
