Arthur you are majestic. I love you dearly. You are confident and so grand. A special gentleman.
Thank you for all you have given Bellawai. 😇
Today Arthur had his last groom with us and then joined us for lunch on the table 😂.
Marie started grooming him as an 8 week old and finished grooming him. It was only the right thing to do.
He then came and said goodbye to our Vets who have loved him for two years. A great mentor for Heidis pups at their vaccination appointment.
Arthur you have been a wonderful dog to us. Part of our family. Thank you for everything. Just a few more days left with him 😘
Less than a week to go Mr Arthur until you are in your new home. We have some of you on ice for our future cream babies and I know you are going to be in a wonderful home with a neat family. Tomorrow you have a clip down as this level of floof is not for the faint hearted!
The Golden Retriever babies Ernie, Baxter, Benny, Pippin, Walter and Finlay really enjoyed meeting you today and thought you were very snazzy!
Darling Finnegan practicing next level of bond gaze. Good boy my love 😍
This is good to know, not just for your dog but for all of us as well✅✅

Louis rather disappointed the babies are going one by one. He perked up back at the car as Daisy was there to greet him and take him to school 🥹
He is so lucky to have this life experience we feel to learn the importance of not keeping the pups and enjoying our own dogs. I have never felt tempted to keep them. Sometimes we will grow a puppy on - once, with Percy so we can continue to work with that dog for a time. I know who our team are and I keep that team tight so we have the time necessary to love them within our family.
Keira and Purple white collar girls arrive to their Wellington and Palmerston North families later today xx

The same dogs go into their covered crates with blankets and clip on buckets with fresh water inside at their lunchtime rest and again overnight.
It’s important to us that our dogs - the parents of your pups are never feeling stressed and confined. Their gardens are right next to and behind our house so we can have them easily move inside and to outside of our home.

The drop offs were brief to get those babies home and fed but they were lovely.

Juni your Dad, Nana and human brother were so thrilled to meet you. One of my favourite beaches and one Daisy knows well. We popped back on our way home to the seaside for her to play after a city walk and shop. Juni you met Rex who is your fur brother an aging very well loved border collie who was really interested in you and sprightly for his age. You have a beautiful spot to grow up in.
Kahlua your Mum and Dad adult Sister and cousin came to collect you x man she makes the best run slice and shortbread out! We had hoped to stop for coffee prior however the rain and traffic slowed us down and then you got yourself in quite a muck on the drive which of course your parents cleaned you up and already sent me the most beautiful photos of you. We are going to love seeing you again one day when we visit. We were also given amazing treats that your adult Brother has as a business. Daisy scoffed them! You are lucky to live with these guys. I will be sure to share the details so more people can enjoy them! You have been a wonderful soul to raise. Kind, keen and funny. I will really miss you
Ella your Mum and Dad have raised two Golden Retriever guide dogs in times gone by and now it’s time for them to enjoy training and raising you just for themselves. They were very fortunate to have been able to have kept one of their Golden girls. This time they want to have you forever so chose Bellawai. You like Kahlua are going to have some beach blasts down Orewa and Stanmore Bay. Such a gentle kind girl. You will be someone very cherished I can see.

Your parents wanted to wait on our next list and it was a given that you were to be theirs not that long after you were born. You are a wonderful boy and your parents and human siblings are going to really enjoy you. It has been a pleasure raising you.
What a wonderful day. We saw our Uni son for a few minutes too which was a real bonus. Home again now and off to bed with our team and more of our puppers that leave from Tuesday this week.
Recall and redirecting play without treats and using toys and praise.
It’s something that we pride ourselves on. Working with puppies without treats and have them less treat driven and more praise and toy focused.
Learning to play as a constructive group by distraction and return to group play - then back to focus on us … and repeating this helps your puppy with recall.
It’s one thing for a puppy to follow but we teach to follow, then independent play then follow again. Louis does this with a game he calls tauganuaght (his own made up name 😂) which is all part of a puppy learning the foundation of hide and seek too.
Pippin playtime! Such a gorgeous boy who loves balls big time!
One of Olives darling babies who is everybody’s friend and such a pretty peach cream and white colour.
He has such an adorable waggy butt and loves to be up front and centre with his brothers in the garden. So so adorable ☺️
That Baxter absolutely loves the velocity dryer 😂. This is a typical morning routine for us with damp days.
They love to play around in the garden and then move to the patio zones and one by one dried off to play inside.
They have their breakfast half an hour after vigorous play. This is important with puppies to avoid tummy discomfort.
Somehow I recognise my babies I have bred even nearly four years on 😅. So did one of our adult sons friends which is even more priceless 🤪.
I rang our Vets as soon as I recognised that face of Goldbirds lol. I flicked through my client file on my phone and rang her owner to let her know. Goldbird has never wandered before and had found herself down the Highway. One of only three pups local to us.
… The next absolutely classic thing was when our sons friend (and one of my besties daughters) messaged me …from her overseas holiday in the UK!!! to ask me “are they yours?”. She had helped hand raise and bottle feed this litter along with a whole gang of her girlfriends since Daisy couldn’t breastfeed successfully.
Green collar girl of Daisy and Inka. Goldenshepherd gorgeous girl. I am happy you are safe and sound back at home and was so glad I recognised you. You almost got to have a sleepover back at Nanas house again 😂
It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Fiona and Diego who had waited 18 months on our wait list for Willow to grow up into a mature dog and their baby to come from her. A great choice for the future role Snowy will have as she grows. Finnegan our beautiful calm English Cream is Snowys father.
The family visited from the deep South when Snowy was four weeks old to meet her and flew and drove back to es**rt Snowy back to their Queenstown home yesterday now she is 8 weeks old.
Not everyone can do this when they have a baby from us and that is completely fine. It is such a privilege when people do though. They come into our home and meet our dogs (as all of our dogs are either inside our house or directly outside. I never have them far away from our four walls as they are family to us).
Snowy will be a clinic dog by day with Fiona and literally on the slopes as she grows as this couple are competitive climbers.
We are so glad to have met this family and been a part of their journey to have a mountaineering dog of their own. I feel really privileged they chose Bellawai and allowed me to prepare Snowy with so many experiences here.
Go well little Polar cub. I will never forget you ⛄️ . Thank you Fiona and Diego for trusting me.
“We had an amazing g experience with Maria. Since the day we decided to get a puppy till the day we picked her up at 8 weeks. She shown great care and professionalism to guide us on this journey. We had the privilege to visit her home where she has all her dogs, a very impressive setup. Her dedication to the dogs is outstanding and the quality of her working dogs provides reassurance of the live companion we have. Thank you very much Maria. Snowy, Fiona Diego”
Overtired and how it affects your dogs brain development negatively.
So many studies done on exhausted humans and the mental health effects. Not so many on dogs.
Dogs are mammals like us.
They must have sleep to grow, process their learning and not get overtired.
Overtired puppy means fractious and fractious means opportunities to practice undesirable behaviour… resulting in behaviour problems that are then unwanted as a teen and adult dog.
90 mins up - 90 mins sleep.
Their routine is so important so you have a mentally well adjusted dog.
Did you know the reason why many clients experience biting puppies and I don’t experience that here?
Not only with your puppies I am raising but also with any puppy I have raised as a Bellawai Dog.
Overtiredness is the cause.
Puppies sleep so so much which is why we bring them in to play and then leave them to sleep.
90mins up and then 90mins sleep is the rule 🐾
Morning puppers!!! It’s adorable waking up to them. They slept through and did their toilets on their mats. Such clever babies for almost 7 weeks old. 🐾💓

The quad of gorgeousness here Zeb, Michelles baby, Hattie and Jet. Really sad to share that as much as we tried with yellow collar boy he unfortunately passed away last night. The Vet had prescribed antibiotics which he was still on and special recovery food mixed with his Black Hawk biscuits however he just would not grow. He tottered around happily in his neonatal pen right next to his siblings and with his heat discs, heater and teddy bears. He just hasn’t made it sadly. We have kept his siblings with him (not directly with him or they were rough as they obviously knew he wasn’t well). He was never alone though. When I fed Snowy her 2am pre travel feed he was still with us. Today we were to go back to the vet however at 6.30am when I got up he had already crossed the rainbow 🌈. His siblings so so much bigger than he was. I know it can happen and we always seek Vet advice if our babies become unwell. Their immune systems so tiny not all make it sadly. Sending love today to Heidi and Vincent. Yellow collar my little bee you were a happy lad. 🐾
Snowy getting settled in for the second half of the night in a flight crate with sister Keira. Snowy leaves us tomorrow morning to be with her mountaineering Mum and Dad and live a wonderful life in Queenstown. They visited us four weeks ago and met Snowy. She will look so different to them when they arrive here again tomorrow to collect her in the morning. Daddy Finnegan is sleeping overnight too; as is Poppy which is really nice as they do love the puppies. It is very sweet. Both Finnegan and Poppy have had their Penn hip scores done this week so are on their last overnight of crate rest and lead walking around the garden together tomorrow. When dogs are hip scored (with Penn hip scores) their is a significant recovery period because of the manipulation done under general anaesthetic. Pain killers and rest without long running gait is required for the first several days to allow everything to settle down again. I will be back in an hour at 2am to give Snowy her very last feed so she is not car sick when driving - nor hypoglycaemic by having a too long past dinner period and missing breakfast feed. My pups that fly like Snowy, Keira and some of the other siblings all have flight crate training. As you can see they are not distressed as it is something familiar since they have had so much practice this last week and a half. This is a retired crate that sits in their playroom right from when they are 3 weeks old so they are very used to going in and out of it. It’s handy to use these retired crates with leaving ready pups. Just that little bit of extra training I do with your babies that makes a big difference to their confidence.
Time on their own is made more interesting with boxes that have hidden treats, toys and kibble in them. Paper is another play item pups love. Our patio is divided into two areas so pups learning to be next to each other and then graduating to being alone and happy in their own space. Such gorgeous babies.
Stunning English Cream babies of Olive, Willow and Finnegan. Having a cute play with toys in the sun and since it’s already so hot here some welcome shade play too. ❤️🐾💓
Goldendoodles having a run before dinner and a wee intro of each one 💓🐾 When they are in a big group together having a blast we let them run and move like a little river of fluff 😝
Rosa has finished her one week past her final vaccination and off for a trip to check out the new pet isle at Bunnings after the school drop off. Everyone needs Donuts 🍩. The perfect lead and collar set for my sweet girl. Thanks Bunnings Warehouse New Zealand
One on one grooming, sit voice marking and lead training. This is done with all of our puppies from when they are 7 weeks old. And today they are 7 weeks old! Wow that time has zoomed by! Lovely Kahlua working with me 💓. Because she’s not food/treat driven like her Nana then I spend the session playing and praise. Marking her with ‘yes’ and naming the correct action she is doing.
Darling English Cream pups of Olive and Willow all health checked and vaccinated. Such a pleasure having have had the opportunity to raise you guys. They start leaving from next week. Time has flown by!
