poor tom , had concentrated fowl smelling mucous,(suspecting it to be bacterial growth) that was preventing him from urination. he had to go through emergency cystotomy to evacuate mucous discharge from his bladder to releive him of the pain. Now we've put him in brooder to give him the required heat. :( fingers crossed

Hello, TAHC community! Hope you all are doing good. Toady we will talk a little about dehydration and fluid therapy. Common signs of dehydration include dry mucous membrane, delayed capillary refill time, and decreased peripheral pulses. In severe cases sunken eyeballs and skin turgor test can also depict severe dehydration.
Mild dehydration might also be corrected by oral rehydration therapy however in many cases we do require IV therapy. Isotonic Crystalloids like 0.9% saline, and Ringer Lactate can be used similarly in Colloids like Albumins may also be employed in some cases. Check and balance must be maintained during IV therapy. Drip speed and animal's Body temperature must be taken into account. Furthermore it must also be ensured that patient receives fluid according to the requirements. Higher than required saline may also lead to hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis . There animals body weight and fluid defecit should be taken into account.
