WHO AM I?

I have many names, but some call me dog-faced.
I am very similar to you humans: I give birth to one at a time, my (wing) bones are white, and I use my ears AND my eyes to move around (unlike some of my cousins!)
Without my species, many types of fruit will not be around.

WHO AM I?

I’m the mafia of the swamps, with my special call. The waters are my home, whether salty or not. I may be small, but I love a good crabby meal.

Please join Singapore Wildcat Action Group for a special screening event, presented in partnership with Earth In Focus: Singapore Nature Film Festival 2024.

Taiwan was once a paradise for multiple wildcat species, with big cats like tigers and clouded leopards calling it home. Today, only one native feline remains: the leopard cat, which could face extinction nationally within the next 20 years. Seeking to document this small and elusive wildcat, the film crew ventured into the Maoluo River and its surrounding habitat — a region spanning three counties and cities that has the highest density of leopard cats in central Taiwan, and serving as a vital ecological corridor for the cats’ movements. The documentary adopts the perspective of a young leopard cat named “Muddy,” who was rescued after being buried alive, to unveil the mysterious and real world of this wildcat species as never seen before.

Shot over two years in four countries, Renaissance of Asian Wild Cats is a three-part documentary series that explores the conservation efforts of four wildcat species. This screening, hosted by Singapore Wildcat Action Group, will focus on the leopard cat in Taiwan.

Following the film screening, there will be a short discussion on the conservation of the leopard cat in Singapore with Marcus Chua from Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum and Vilma D’Rozario from Singapore Wildcat Action Group.

A (SLOW) MOTION PICTURE

Meet the Sunda Slow Loris, a resident here in Singapore that is famous because they are one of the rare few mammals who are actually VENOMOUS. Yes you heard us! Despite their dangerous demeanour, they are sadly still exploited as part of the illegal wildlife trade.

If you want to learn more about their plight, the people at International Animal Rescue have a powerful short video that you can watch now to know the truth: https://tinyurl.com/sadslowloris

COMEBACK KINGS

Once dwindling in numbers, the Sambar Deer population in Singapore has been making a comeback, with more sightings as their numbers grow!

The phrase ‘deer in the spotlight’ was created from their defence mechanism of freezing instantly when startled; but more often than not, because of their extraordinary sense of hearing and smell, they probably already know you are around and are nice enough to let you see them!

Learn more about them by swiping right, and as always dear friends, remember to persist to coexist!

SERPENT IN THE SOIL

Have a garden? Chances are you are living with the Brahminy Blind Snake! But don’t fret, these fellas help you keep your insect population in check, and are harmless to us – because they are really very small! Swipe right to learn more on how to coexist with them!

3 THIS YEAR AND MORE TO COME!

JK Wildlife is 3 this year! That means 3 years of coexistence advocacy, 3 years of love for animals, 3 years of 24-hour wildlife rescue and 3 years of persistence!

Spending this time to thank: all of you whom we have crossed path with, humans and animals alike; all of you who believed in us and still continue to do so; all of you who have made animal coexistence part of your lives; all of you who empowered us to do our jobs; and all of you who wear the JK Wildlife uniform day in and out, night after night.

We are truly blessed to do the work we do and our pledge is that we will continue to push on, for the animals. Let's look forward to spreading the word of coexistence to the ends of Singapore in years to come!

p.s. Celebrated our special day with the backbone of JK Wildlife. Special thanks to Julia Waters Polo and fam for crashing their beautiful home! (We had to have you part of the picture~)

NOT ALONE AND ALWAYS UNITED, REGARDLESS OF SPECIES!

Happy 59th Birthday Singapore! Celebrating the fact that we are not alone, living in harmony with all beings on our tiny island. A good time to reflect on all that have lived and will continue to live together in coexistence, in the many years to come.

Let's persist to coexist!

WHO DID THE KINGFISHER DIRTY?

By now, you probably have seen this article on news platforms about 4 poor Kingfishers (and many others!) that suffered because of the Singapore oil spill on June 14. We zoom in on our native friend, the Collared Kingfisher, and the effects oil spills have on our eco-system.

*Update: Out of 4 kingfishers, 2 managed to survive and have since been released. Special shoutout to the tireless efforts of animal protection organisations.

WE LOVE CROCS! (not the shoe brand)

Just last month, we visited Queensland, Australia to undergo wildlife training for a unique animal that we live side by side with: Crocodiles!

We are now specialised in understanding their behaviour, which is very important if we are to safely manage, rescue and provide advice on these ancient animals. Continue watching to see a rare footage of the croc we saw down under making a 'jaw pop'!

DOUBLE HAPPINESS!

We are now BizSAFE STAR and ISO 45001 certified! These certifications signify that we meet the top international standards of safety, and are a testament of our emphasis on safety as the no. 1 priority for us humans (and the animals!).

Remember, always persist to coexist, and call our 24-hour wildlife rescue hotline at 8810 3699 if you need help with a wild interaction or see an animal in distress!

WHO AM I? *SPECIAL WORLD OCEANS DAY FEATURE!*

Happy World Oceans Day!

Chances are you probably have seen me somewhere (maybe on a coin? heh), but did not know that I am Singaporean too! Though we are lousy swimmers, we make up for it with our powerful tails which act as anchors in rough waters! Oh and in case you didn't know, we are actually fishes too!

Make a guess and swipe right to find out!

WHO AM I?

Hello fellow Singaporeans! My name is derived from two deep dents below my eyes! The Rock is my brother from another mother, but he definitely has less warts than me! Oh, and I have seen some of you humans during your inter-tidal walks (that’s because I can stay out of water for up to 24 hours!), but don’t fret as I mean no harm to you, unless you try to harm me; then I can literally kill you (again, like The Rock).

A NIGHT FOR THE ANIMALS!

This one rare time when the JK Wildlife team decks out in dapper fits to attend the ACRES Charity Gala 2024! Titled 'Wild Second Chances', the Gala saw notable players and new faces from our industry coming together for the animals, all of whom we were happy to connect and reconnect!

A special shoutout to : Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Singapore) for the invite, for raising more than $300K and for the HUGE milestone of finally gaining approval to use the backyard of the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre for expansion!

ACRES has been a close ally in the fight for coexistence and animal protection, and we wish them all the best.
