FRANKLIN, TEXAS +2 HOURS

With us still trying to get settled after moving back to this part of Texas I wanted to do a little giveaway to reintroduce ourselves to all the hunters in the area. Go check out and like our page, share this post, and leave a comment (I won’t be able to see a lot of the shares do to privacy settings) and on Monday night I will do a random drawing to win a hat, a few koozies, and a $200 Visa gift card (or Venmo if you prefer). You must Like our page, share this post, and comment on this post that you did so to be entered in the drawing.

Me and my girls are excited for the upcoming season and the opportunity to earn your trust when it comes to recovering wounded deer in the area.

Got a call in Lee county this morning for a young man’s first buck. It was quartered a little harder than they thought and came out a little far back. Maggie had him shutdown about 1/2 a mile in and we got him put down.

MLD mulie with a broke front leg. Maggie jumped him at 5-600 yards and we had him put down at the thousand yard mark.

Fortunate to get a late season track on the way to the deer lease. Far back gut/intestine with a bow. Maggie got it lined out pretty quick and found him DOA around the 1,000 yard mark. Coyotes beat us to him. Met some great people and got to put an awesome buck on the tailgate. Big thanks to Matt Sodolak for trusting Maggie to find his buddy’s deer.

Maggie got a little battle wound last weekend so we are taking a 10 day break so we don’t rip out stitches. You can still call me if you can’t find a deer and I can get you in touch with a good tracker. Maggie will be well rested and ready to go next weekend for youth weekend. Big thanks to Dr. Chelsea Friemel at Swann Animal Clinic in Amarillo for always taking great care of our mutts.

Made a trip to Paducah to track a pretty neat cull buck. 14 hour old gut shot with 0 blood. The hunter did everything right and didn’t push him at all. It took the hounds a minute to line it out with the high winds but Maggie ended up finding him about 275 yards from the hit site. It’s been a slow start but we are 2 for 2 in the panhandle so far.

We got called to Portales, New Mexico last night to track a bow shot mulie. I had to keep Maggie on a leash (NM state law) but she lined it out perfectly. The trail was about 400 yards long and the deer was still alive but hurt enough that the hunter could finish him off quickly. The shot placement wasn’t terrible but the arrow took a bad angle and made it a Liver/Gut track. We got to meet some great people and Maggie got to knock the dust off after a long offseason.

Deer season is right around the corner and Maggie is ready to clock in and put your trophy on the tailgate. I wanted to remind everyone that we are now in Amarillo and will be servicing the Panhandle/West Texas. I am available by phone 24/7. If you are unsure about the hit site or have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to call me. I will also be giving $100 to anyone who refers me to a track that I end up taking. I’ll ask everybody that I track for how they heard of me and if they give your name I’ll give you $100, that simple. We appreciate all the support and are looking forward to a successful deer season.

Just a reminder....if you decide you want to call in dogs to help recover your deer, back out and stop looking. Whether you just stomp the trail or push the deer out of its bedding area, you are reducing the chances of recovering your deer. If you are unsure of your shot or don’t like what you find at the hit site, it is always FREE to call me and get my opinion over the phone day or night.

Here are some good tips to help increase the chances of your deer being recovered:

- Mark hit site/last blood you found
- Send pictures of arrow or blood on ground
- Stay off the trail
- DO NOT grid search
- If you do happen to jump the deer up, back out immediately, do not push the deer any farther

Slow weekend but we got to drop Maggie on a mature doe shot a little far back for a buddy. Maggie got it lined out and took the trail 1000 yards and jumped the doe out of a her bedding area. It took Maggie another 200-250 yards to get her bayed up so we could sneak in and get her dispatched.

Single lung/liver shot. Maggie hit the trail and jumped her up and the chase was on. She didn’t honor the first bay and ended up running right behind the camp house and circling back. I called Maggie off and reset her at last blood a few hours later. Maggie made quick work of it and we had her on the tailgate in no time. It might not have been a trophy at the end of the trail, but total it was a 1.3 mile track.
