Gunners Board and Train🧡
I'm so grateful I had another special dog in my program. Some dogs leave such and imprint, Gunner is one of them.
Him and his owner have big dreams of being a therapy dog team and passing CGC.
He's a naturally well tempered dog that grasps concepts quickly. He was such a joy to train and so refreshing.
This is the first dog to enter the program that genuinely didn't have any behavior issues. So it was a nice and light hearted stay.
We took his obedience seriously and made sure it was proofed in many varying environments. He's going to be such a great therapy dog on day!🧡
A couple weeks ago during Houstons Ecollar conditioning session. Love how dedicated this duo is 🧡
Miss Nala got to tag along with me to @newleafk9training group class/pack walk
It was so good to get her around other dogs and people!
The dark gave her a new obstacle to overcome but she handled everything well and got great practice in🧡
The Labs version of the herding ball= paws only🐾😂
I think you’re supposed to heard with your snout Reggie🤔
He did this for 20 minutes this morning, love this dork.
Marty’s Board & Train🐾
I loved getting to train this dude. He was motivated and always ready to work.
Using obedience to redirect his overstimulation became so enjoyable for him. He loves getting to train and go places now.
Good job Marty, proud of you!🧡

Barkley’s before and after with his first lesson.
I took Barkley out to see how he walked. He was so high strung, pulling me around, not relaxed, wouldn’t even take treats or follow me when I was enthusiastic and inviting.
I also tried to see if we could just train heel on a slip (as I start from low level and work up when it comes to tools with every dog)
He was not willing to focus and couldn’t be motivated by anything other than being at the end of the leash.
That’s how I knew he would be a great candidate for the prong collar.
He took to it well and quickly with proper conditioning.
I didn’t achieve a calm walk by using leash pops or pulling him back to me.
All I did was walk and turn over and over again. When he doesn’t follow but I keep going, leash pressure is there. It’s his choice to release it by coming to a heel position which is then rewarded when he comes to, as well as staying in “heel”
While I am asking him to heel, I’m leaving the choice up to him to gain that reward and take any pressure off.
Since he is so used to leading I had to help him work through the couple of fits he threw.
I have found When a dog is so used to leading, they have a hard time being told they have to follow.
While those fits are normally reserved for Doodles (if you know you know😆) we pushed through and he understood the task.
We ended up having an enjoyable short walk that we will continue to build off of. We want his owners to enjoy taking him out.
Don’t knock training tools yall, they work when applied correctly and ethically.

Sweet Remi!🐾
Place is such an important command that gives so many owners freedom and trust.
But it takes TIME to build up distractions, distractions and duration so that the dog can successfully be on and relaxed.
It needs to be a place of neutrality, relaxing, and just being. Which doesn’t come naturally to most dogs, so it needs to be taught.
Remi knows she only gets reward from the bed when she is down with all four paws on. She also doesn’t get reward when she chooses to get worked up about something else going on (ex: someone walking by, door opening, etc) but she can get reward if she remains neutral during those normal distractions.
Here, she stands up and almost comes off if it wasn’t for her owners quick reminder.
She knows exactly what “place” means at this point. She wants the reward more than she wants to be told “no”, so she goes back down and relaxes.
Everything in dog training is INTENTIONAL. If it isn’t a behavior that leads to the desired behavior, don’t reward. Be picky, be specific. Your dog will understand that more and appreciate knowing exactly what you want instead of guessing.

🐾Recall🐾
This is one of the most important skills to teach your dog. I always say if nothing else, your dog at least needs solid recall.
If your dog chases, if they have any sort of aggression or social unreliability, if they are overly excited to see new dogs/people, if you hike/adventure in new or dangerous terrain… an argument can be made for any situation… YOU NEED RELIABLE RECALL!
This can save your dogs life, as I’ve seen it do for many dogs time and time again.
Being able to call your dog off of a squirrel running into the street, or from running up to that dog that you didn’t know was leash reactive will save your dog from getting hurt and causing a fight.
Because even dogs with the best intentions can be the reason a fight is started when they encounter a dog that is uncomfortable.
Miss Olive here is a dog that works great off of just leash pressure from a slip lead. That’s what works for her.
Most dogs WILL need more I order to be accountable to follow through and there is nothing wrong with that.
As long as it’s ethical and effective your dogs life is worth it!
How reliable is your dogs recall?
