In the last two weeks, volunteers have sent thousands of pounds of pet food out the door to support DSM area pets and their parents. Thank you to all who support our mission and make this work possible.

When we have more food than we can distribute before it expires, we do our best to support community partners who can get it into the hands of those who need it.

This morning we visited Des Moines Area Religious Council and dropped off 175 boxes of cat food for distribution to their patrons. It is partnerships like these that ensure, together, we can support local pets and their parents.

Animal Rescue League of Iowa is hosting a wellness clinic on August 30 for dogs and cats. A variety of vaccinations will be available for $35.
Registration is required!

Our Pet Helpline is in place to assist pet owners who may be struggling with pet issues. We can provide resources and assistance to help keep you and your pet together.

Our board member, Rick, was available this week to accept a generous donation from Tyler with Petsakes! Thank you for providing 329lbs of pet food and treats to support our programs!

As an all-volunteer-organization we rely on volunteers to support our programs.

We are in need of volunteers to support on Saturdays, helping fill patron pet food orders, ensuring pets receive the nutrition they need.

Volunteers will:
- Serve one Saturday per month or every other month (we are flexible with schedules!)
- Serve a full or half shift (full shift is 9am-2pm)
- Have the ability to lift 3-30lbs
- Enjoy serving local pets and their parents!

A key part of our volunteers being able to serve hundreds of pets each month is through creating partnerships with local organizations. It takes a village, as we are proud to partner with WesleyLife Meals on Wheels and KADI - Knock and Drop Iowa to support pet parents in our communities.

Last Saturday, we received 10 new applications to the Pet Pantry… 10 pet parents who were seeking supports to provide quality care for their pets… And that was just one weekend alone…

The Pet Project believes no person should have to give up their pet due to financial hardships. We focus on providing pet food so that an individual’s resources can be directed to other needs.

We want to send a very special shout out to Wells Fargo and our regular community volunteers who spent Friday afternoon with us!

A big part of ensuring we can distribute our donations effectively and in a timely manner is having organized shelves. These volunteers organized all the pet food by expiration date, making it easily accessible for our Saturday volunteers! Volunteers are the core of our organization, and we are so appreciative of Mackenzie and Casey! You can find them in the pantry on Saturdays filling orders and stocking shelves. Their kind spirit is appreciated by all who interact them, and you can hear their passion for our work when they talk about their own rescue pets - Sadie, Sandy and the amazing Jack Russell Terrier mix who came before them. We are also exited to welcome Mackenzie to the Board of Directors!
