The KitCats are in urgent need of Friskies pate! We have been through all of the canned food donations we have received the last few months and have a day or two left before we are out!

The KitCats go through a LOT of canned each week and use about 9-10 cans a day!! So, one 40 count case lasts just 4days!

If you are able to have a case sent our way, the link below will even generate a small donation for the KitCats as well! 🩵

A little blurry because Donnie does not sit still well for photos when he wants love…

…but look at our sweet boy!! We can’t get over how good his eyes look!! 🥰

One week post-op and he is doing so well. He has another whole week of stitches and the cone before we go back for stitch removal.

We are hoping we can find him the very best forever home (or even a foster!) now that his eyes have been taken care of! 🥰

Donnie’s surgery went really well! He is now back home resting. We have him in a crate to keep him safe - he’s still loopy from the meds and we don’t want him to bump his eyes on anything. Even with the cone! His stitches come out in 2-3 weeks. And he wears the cone that whole time. We will keep everyone updated as he recovers!

Thank you for the good vibes sent his way! And thank you to everyone who has donated/supported Donnie’s Entropion journey!! 🩵

Calling all KitCat supporters local to Fredericksburg!!

The KitCat barn is moving on FRIDAY and there are still things in and around it that need to move before it can move! We need manpower to help - I can not do heavy lifting and Troy is still recovering no from shoulder surgery.

Comment below or DM if you may be able to assist!!

The tux and another cat are in the 2nd photo. And there’s a 3rd that looks a lot like Davey but I haven’t gotten a photo of that one yet.

‼️Urgent Announcement: Stafford County Animal‼️

It is with heavy hearts that we share the unfortunate news that Stafford County Animal Shelter is facing yet another crisis😞 Currently, our shelter is operating well beyond its capacity, with a staggering 48 dogs under our care. As a result, we have reached a critical point where we must take immediate action.

Effective immediately, we are compelled to close our doors to non-emergency surrenders until further notice. Our primary focus now shifts to accommodating emergencies only, as we simply do not have the physical space or resources to take in any more animals.

Our dedicated team is working tirelessly around the clock to provide the best possible care for each and every one of our furry residents. Despite the challenges we face, we remain committed to our mission of saving and rehoming every adoptable dog in our custody.

The thought of having to resort to humane euthanasia due to lack of space is heartbreaking 💔 for us all. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every dog in our care finds a loving and permanent home, where they will be cherished as part of a family.

If you or someone you know is considering surrendering a dog, we request that you explore all possible alternatives first. Reach out to friends, family, or local rescue organizations who may be able to provide temporary foster care or assistance.

We urgently appeal to our community, both near and far, to lend us your support during this critical time. Please tag rescues, share our post, and spread the word far and wide. Together, we can make a difference and give these deserving animals the second chance they deserve.

Thank you for your understanding, support and compassion.

Reesie and Oliver both went to the vet today! Reesie has been just p*eing/pooping where she’s laying without trying to get to the litter box. She’s eating well but just laying around otherwise.

Oliver was returned recently for spraying. We haven’t noticed the spraying, but we have noticed a very strong odor from his urine. His owners had had him checked for UTIs several times before settling on it being behavior. So, we knew there was no UTI but still wanted to get him a once over and see what was happening.

Y’all aren’t going to believe this one…

BOTH Reesie and Oliver have unofficial diagnoses of Diabetes! Full senior panels and urine have been sent out on both and we will get results by Wednesday. We feel there may be more going on with Reesie and Oliver had the full panel just to make sure it really is only the diabetes.

We will post updates when we have them!

In the meantime, donations towards their care would be greatly appreciated! The total for the exams and lab work today was $890.

Tre is at the vet for 1-3 days. The vomiting he was doing distracted us from the fact he wasn’t p*eing! There are lots of red and white blood cells in his urine and his bladder is full of debris. We took him home after the first evening at the ER vet to give him a chance to p*e on his own, which he did not. So, back to the vet last night and a longer stay this time. They got the catheter in fairly easily so they don’t know that he was so much blocked as just producing lots of mucous and it was making it hard and painful for him to p*e. He is staying until his urine returns to its normal color/consistency. As of this morning, he is doing well. They have him on two different pain meds to keep him calm and comfortable.

We will update as we get more information. 🩵

💙 Sisu 🐉 Loved & Missed 💙

We are heartbroken to share that after over 6 weeks of fighting mycoplasma and hemolytic anemia, and with no response to either antibiotic, the difficult decision was made to let Sisu be at peace last night. As the vet said, she was “a very, very sick kitty” and we were at the point that nothing was going to help. Giving her peace was her best option. 💙

02/28/2024

Thankfully, Davey is hanging in there and doing better than expected since his cancer diagnosis. But several of the other KitCats are truly falling apart.

Sisu may be done with her fight with Mycoplasma and hemolytic anemia. She is tired of us pilling her and messing with her. She is still very yellow and still p*eing green even halfway through her second antibiotic. She goes through days of barely eating followed by days of no eating - and that’s with an appetite stimulant. She refuses to let us syringe feed her since she is mad enough we even have to pill her. Going on three days of her tired little meows when she sees me - I feel like it’s time…

V***n is still dealing with labored breathing but escaped her crate so we couldnt give her meds for a few days because she would hide from us and we couldn’t put it in her food and risk another cat getting it. She is finally staying in one spot at canned food time so we can get her her meds again.

Tre has been vomiting yellow foam since yesterday and will be heading to the vet in Central Park this afternoon. He’s acting normal - just vomiting.

Scarlett is self-mutliating again - this time her back left leg. I have to get her crated so we can start medicating her again (Prozac and pred)

Donnie’s vision seems questionable and he still needs his surgery for entropion- I will be selling my old jeep to pay for his surgery as soon as I can get the piles of KitCat supplies cleaned out of it.

I know money is tight for almost everyone, but donations towards vet care are greatly needed and even just a few dollars is a huge help with the amount of money we have been/are spending on vet care. Donations can be made using PayPal with the email - [email protected] 🩵

Davey's Kitcats is a 501(c)3 so all donations are 100% tax deductible.

02/08/2024

Sweet V***n and Davey will be going to the vet on Friday afternoon.

Davey has a mass in his mouth that we were told is an aggressive form of cancer. However, it seems to be shrinking a little and he is doing really, really well!! So, we are getting a second opinion from our regular vet - in case it’s just an abscess, which can be healed.

When we caught all the KitCats to move them from the KitCat barn to the new house, we noticed V***n’s ear looked a little yucky. She’s feral so we can’t get our hands on her to really check, but planned to have her seen at the vet. Then, last night we noticed that she was coughing, similar to Davey with his asthma, and then started looking like her breathing was somewhat labored. She can breathe, it just looks like it’s taking a little more effort than it should.

So, off to the vet Friday for both kitties. We are hoping V***n can handle being caught again to be taken in - she gets so scared!

Wish us luck - we will post updates after the appointment.

Also - Sisu is hanging in there but still just nibbling a little here and there. Hopefully her new meds will be ready for us to pick up while we are at the vet on Friday.

Sisu’s results are in - the antibiotic hasn’t done anything for her anemia. We could try a different antibiotic… but she’s still not eating very much. Just nibbles. She has always been a tiny girl, just 6.5 lbs. She was down to 5.6 this past Friday. The nightly fluid boluses are what is sustaining her at this point. She still loves getting pets and cuddles from us, but otherwise is just laying there with very little energy all day.

The questions we are fighting with are: will the new antibiotic actually help? Or will we just be delaying the inevitable? Is the Mycoplasma just hitting her too hard for her little body?

At what point are we doing more harm than good?

Most pet owners face this question at some point in their life. Rescues, unfortunately, are faced with these types of questions all too often. We wish we could say it gets easier to figure out the answers. But it truly doesn’t.

Sisu got rechecked at the vet today and had bloodwork done again. We should get results either Monday or Tuesday. For now, continuing meds and daily boluses.

I will update when we get results. Hopefully they show some improvement. 🩵

02/01/2024

You guys!!! It’s been a week of Sisu not eating on her own, but fluid boluses every night and a little syringe feeding when she would let us, but we were starting to worry that we were going to have make a rough decision here soon… just p*eked at the we**am and found this 🥰 We are so happy!!! 🩵

Praying and hoping this means she is starting to feel better! 👏👏👏
