September is Animal Pain Awareness Month. It can sometimes be difficult to tell if our pet is in pain, here are some common signs you should be familiar with:

🐱 Decreased activity - take notice if your pet is not playing as much as usual
🐶 Not going up or down stairs - this could be an early sign of osteoarthritis
🐱 Reluctance to jump up onto surfaces - this especially applies to cats
🐶 Difficulty standing after lying down - is a sign of osteoarthitis
🐱 Decreased appetite - this can signal mouth pain
🐶 Over-grooming - or licking a particular area can be a sign of referred pain

If you notice any of these signs, please contact your veterinarian.

Flea dirt is actually flea p**p!

When fleas live on animals like cats or dogs, they feed on their blood. Then, they p**p out little black specks that look like tiny grains of pepper. That’s flea dirt. How can you tell the difference between dirt and flea dirt? Put some of the dirt on a wet paper towel. If it is flea waste, it will turn orange or a dark reddish-brown color from the digested blood.
