Found My Animal

Found My Animal Found My Animal promotes animal adoption in a very direct way: let your pet wear your values.

Inspired by a fisherman in the family, we made our first three-strand, hand-spliced and whipped rope leash for our rescue pups back in 2006. So many people stopped us in the street to admire our unique nautical leads that we decided to share them with others. Our founders met on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn while walking their two rescue pups, both of whom were named Walter. The Walters were sizing

each other up, and their people started a conversation that quickly revealed their passion for animal welfare. They decided to become partners after discovering they had more in common than two rescue dogs with the same name. They had both attended great design schools—Cooper Union and Rhode Island School of Design—and were passionate about animals, animal welfare and a love of the principles of good design.

Our Story

Lost and “FOUND” by Robin Costello It all started with Walter - and his doppelgänger. On a neighborhood walk in Brooklyn in 2006, Bethany Obrecht and her rescue dog - a handsome chihuahua named Walter - crossed paths with Anna Conway and her pooch - (you guessed it - another rescue chihuahua named Walter!) With so much in common, the two “Walters” and their Moms became fast friends - and together they would change the lives of many more rescue animals. With a penchant for crafts, and inspiration from a fisherman in the family, the two designed and created their first leashes made with marine-grade rope, brass, and waxed canvas. Made beautifully with 3 strand, hand spliced, whipped rope, they were an instant hit. Indeed, so many people stopped them in the street to admire their unique nautical leads, that the women decided to share them with others - and within a short time a new business, called Found My Animal was born. Unique to each leash is a simple, numbered brass tag that reads “FOUND”. A simple message that reflects the company mission to promote animal adoption in a very direct way, by letting your pet wear your values. To date, more than 117,000 of these numbered leashes have been sold. A whole line of pet products and accessories soon followed: collars, harnesses, beds, bowls, and fashions for all your pets including cats, dogs, horses and even goats. See their full line of “accessories for adopted animals and their people” at www.foundmyanimal.com. Part of the proceeds from their sales go to support animal welfare and rescue organizations with a whole section of their website dedicated to helping facilitate direct pet adoptions. Found My Animal …compassionate people, making beautiful artisan products with a meaningful purpose and message … all thanks to Walter! @foundmyanimal #foundmyanimal
