Hi! I’m Heather, aka “Az Shelter Pets”

I’m a volunteer photographer for adoptable dogs in Phx, Az Welcome to Az Shelter Pets!

It's a simple name, but it has meaning. All the dogs you see on this page are looking for furever homes in Phoenix, Arizona. Yes, these are dogs in a shelter, but they are also so much more than that. One of these dogs could quite possibly be your new best friend: Your "get fit" motivator. Your "dinner and a movie" cuddle buddy. Your "my day was so bad until I came home to my dog" savior. In short

, one of these dogs could be your new Shelter PET! Most of the dogs on this page are available for adoption through the Maricopa County Animal Care & Control shelter system. The dog's current location will be noted in their bio. Please keep in mind that these are dogs I've met while taking photos. I can provide a general idea of the dog's temperament and personality based on my observation of the dog, but beyond that- the rest is up to you! :-) If you see a face you are drawn to and you're in the market to adopt, please go visit the dog and learn more about them

How can you help if you can't adopt? PLEASE "like" and share the dog's photos to help them get seen by their furever families. Lastly, any questions- just ask! :-)

Chi Town's got FRUGHUAHUAS!! 😆 When they took in Romy and Michele as strays a few months ago, we guessed they were French Bulldog mixes... then we started thinking Boston Terrier mixes. We decided to DNA test them for fun and now see that our original Frenchy thought was correct, along with Pug, Chihuahua, and a little sprinkle of Staffy for Romy. AND we confirmed that Romy and Michele are indeed sisters! We will be DNA testing a puppy from each mama's litter, so stay tuned for those results; it will give us a better idea of who dad is. Basil is the cutest little fella! He's an approximately one year old Chihuahua mix, weighing just around 10 pounds. Basil is shy and sweet. I LOVE these two! Uno (left) and Utah originally came to a few years ago, brought in with quite a few other dogs, from a hoarding situation. Both dogs have made a lot of progress with their people socialization (but will still bite your ankles when they first meet you, lol). Uno is playful and goofy, and just now allowing me to pick him up/struggle snuggle him (lol). Utah loves socializing with the pack and LOVES belly rubs from those he knows and trusts. Beautiful Husky mix, HOPE, is still adoptable! Hope wants nothing more than a family and home to call her own. She has some separation anxiety and would do best in a home with people who are home more often than not.
Hope also needs a secure house and yard (she can open doors!). Hope LOVES little dogs and tolerates larger dogs. She is very affectionate with people, walks great on leash, and after a little play time, is actually pretty chill. Happy National SuperHero Day! Today we are celebrating all our superhero rescue dogs- like Coffee, here! Coffee is a tripawd Bulldog mix, who has been through a lot in his three years of life. Alyster has started trusting me enough lately, that he will flop over and beg for belly rubs! This is huge for a shy guy like Alyster. 💜 Alyster takes a bit to warm up to new people. He originally came from a hoarding situation and didn't have much practice socializing with people. Alyster has come so far during his time and we know he will do even better in a home setting. Happy April 22nd, EARTH DAY! We'll admit, when we bought this globe for the photo, we didn't look at the size. It doesn't get much cuter than this- meet Sammy! Sammy is an approximately one-year-old Poodle mix, available for adoption through Chi Town Rescue in Phx. Sammy came to rescue as a stray; he was quite matted and dirty. Nothing a good groom couldn't fix though, and now we can see Sammy's adorable face! Sammy is a young dog and full of fun and energy. He loves to run and play in the yard with the other dogs. Sammy is outgoing with people and loves attention. In fact, he demands it! Sammy will hop up on you for pets and you'll soon be best friends. If you have pets AND treats, you are sure to be best friends forever! If you're looking for a friendly and active little dog, you have got to come meet Sammy. *Sammy has a hernia that needs surgical repair. This does not cause him any pain. He can be adopted now, and taken to his surgery April 24th. Chi Town will pay for the surgery, included with the adoption fee. Email [email protected] for more info/meet and greet appointment. Sammy weighs approximately 15 pounds. His adoption fee includes spay surgery, vaccinations up to date, microchip, and hernia repair.

Have you been looking for a friendly and fluffy little dog to rescue and love forever? Look no further- you've found him. Meet Silas! Silas is an approximately one-year-old Terrier mix, adoptable through Chi Town Rescue. He's a small guy, weighing just around eight pounds. Silas came in with two other dogs, all of whom were pretty matted and dirty. Attempts to locate an owner were unsuccessful, so Silas and his pals got groomed, took some glamour photos, and are now in the market for a forever family. Silas can be shy and a little fearful when meeting new people, he isn't "bitey" but he is evasive and escapist. It's important that he have a secure home/yard and person that has reflexes and dexterity to "catch" him if needed. Silas does well with the other dogs he's met and enjoys running around the yard, socializing and playing. Silas is friendly and fun, and we think he will fit into home life perfectly. It's National Exercise Day! Who better to encourage fitness, than our super buff Bulldog, BUBBA! Bubba has a holistic approach to working out: Round one starts with eating as many biscuits as you can in 10 minutes (a healthy diet). Round two involves flopping over on the ground, refusing to move, and making someone carry/drag you across the room (works out their muscles). Round 3 involves popping a Trazodone and sleeping off all that hard work (rest is very important for your health). Happy April 18th!

Meet Geralt! Nothing supernatural here- just an adorable little rescue dog, looking for his forever family. Geralt is approximately one-year-old and weighs around 17 pounds. He's some sort of Terrier mix, with wiry hair that stands up in a mohawk on his head. Now what type of Terriers Geralt is a mix of, we have no idea. BUT as video game Geralt would say, "Cute is cute" (that's the saying, right?). 😉 Geralt the dog, is a fun and friendly fella. He has a sad story but doesn't let that get him down. Geralt was noted to be running around a neighborhood for a few days. His rescuers inquired and found out that his former family had moved and left him to fend for himself. We aren't sure who would do such a thing to any dog, let alone one as sweet and cute as Geralt. Geralt is friendly with people and enjoys attention and pets. He is social with the other dogs at rescue and loves to sniff around the play yard, and chase the occasional toy. Does Geralt sound like the dog for you? Happy April 15th- it's National McDonald's Day! Today is the anniversary day of the opening of the first McDonald's, back in 1955. What's cuter than a puppy in a french fry container? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. ;-)

This is the smallest pup (1 pound, 6 oz) of Mama Michele's litter, born March 22nd. Say hello to Star! Star is outta-this-world CUTE! She is an approximately three-year-old Poodle mix, weighing 14 pounds. Star came to Chi Town Rescue as a stray, with two other dogs. They were all quite dirty and matted, and attempts to locate an owner were unsuccessful. Check out the glow-up on this girl! Star is groomed and looking oh-so-cute. Star is friendly, but just a bit shy at first. She enjoys socializing with the other dogs at rescue, and has a moderate energy level. With people, she quickly gets over her initial reserve, and will soon be relaxing in your arms for pets and love. We don't know much about Star's past, but we know her future is bright! Happy National Pet Day- it's April 11th! Today is all about celebrating the joy our pets bring to our lives. They say you start to look like your pets after awhile. Pepper is going through her cowgirl era, and after spending a little time with her, WE were too! ;-) Pepper is a young and active Chihuahua mix, adoptable through Chi Town Rescue. *ADOPTED* Yule is a two-year-old Tabby mix. Not too much is known of his past life prior to coming to Home Fur Good. He was rescued from the Maricopa County shelter after being turned in as a stray. If Yule could talk, we are sure he would have lots of stories to tell about his time on the streets. For now though, Yule is happy to be safe and indoors. He is a friendly guy who allowed all handling for his photo shoot and leaned into our pets. Yule is social but can be selective with his fellow feline friends, and even his human friends from time to time. Hey, we can appreciate a little CATtitude! 😉 For the most part though, Yule is a genial and tolerant cat. He will even walk on a leash and harness to take a stroll around the shelter indoors!
