June kicks off National Pet Preparedness Month!

As we gear up for hurricane and storm season, are you prepared to care for your pet in the event of a natural disaster? Here are some tips and tricks to make sure you have EVERYTHING you need to care for your pet in an emergency!

- Get a pet first aid kit. In times of disaster, it is often hard to seek medical care for your pet.
- Make sure you have enough food and medications for at least 7 days.
- Have at least one gallon of water for each pet and human for at least 5 days, plus a sanitary collapsable bowl for pets to drink out of.
- Sturdy harnesses and leashes with reflective materials for each pet.
- Updated name tags with your cell phone number listed, as well as any medications that your pet may be on, incase your pet is separated or lost.
- Bags to collect waste.

Today we slow down to remember what Memorial Day is about. Today is about more than cookouts, or trips to the lake. Today we honor and grieve those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our Nation. For the Soldiers, Airmen, Marines, Sailors and Guardsmen who gave their all for us to have our freedoms, THANK YOU!

Spring time and gardening season are upon us! Review this chart for plants that are toxic vs. non-toxic for your furbaby! Be aware, know the signs, and keep them safe!

If you think your dog has eaten something toxic, follow these steps:

-Contact your vet, emergency vet, or the Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661) for accurate advice.
-Try to identify the plant by taking a sample, a photo, or by collecting any vomit in a plastic bag.
-When you reach the vet or helpline, provide as much information as possible, including: the suspected plant and the time of ingestion, your dog’s weight, and any symptoms your dog is showing.
-Under no circumstances should you induce vomiting unless instructed to do so by the vet. Specific plant poisons require specific treatments, and vomiting can make some cases worse.
-Don’t fall for the myth that dogs instinctively avoid dangerous plants. While it’s sometimes true of animals in the wild, dogs have no ability to distinguish between safe and unsafe plants.

Ensuring your pets' safety and comfort during a solar eclipse is important, as sudden changes in light and atmospheric conditions can potentially confuse or stress them. Here are some tips to help keep your pets safe and calm during the eclipse:

Keep pets indoors: Keep your pets indoors during the eclipse to prevent them from experiencing any confusion or stress caused by the changing light conditions. Ensure they have access to their usual resting spots and toys to keep them occupied.

Close curtains or blinds: If your pets will be indoors during the eclipse, close curtains or blinds to minimize their exposure to the changing light levels. This can help create a more stable environment and reduce any anxiety they may feel.

Maintain a calm environment: Try to maintain a calm and relaxed atmosphere in your home during the eclipse. Avoid making sudden noises or movements that could startle your pets and speak to them in a soothing voice if they seem anxious.

Monitor outdoor pets: If you have outdoor pets, such as horses or livestock, ensure they have access to shelter and a familiar environment during the eclipse. Consider bringing them indoors or providing them with a safe enclosure to minimize their exposure to the changing light conditions.

Watch for signs of stress: Keep an eye on your pets for any signs of stress or anxiety during the eclipse, such as pacing, panting, whining, or hiding. If your pets seem distressed, try to comfort them and provide reassurance.

By taking these precautions, you can help ensure that your pets remain safe and stress-free during the solar eclipse.

Lunch & Learn!

Special shout out to Sam from Zoetis, and Yvonne from Dechra Dental for coming last week to do training with the team! Sam gave information on our Imagyst machine and kits, which allows us to run more specific tests in house versus sending them out to the lab. With it being Pet Dental Awareness Month, Yvonne taught us about the new dental care products that Dechra Dental has and the importance of the VOHC (Veterinary Oral Health Council) Seal of Approval! and OF COURSE, we took some selfies along the way!!

Did you know that Feburary is Pet Dental Health Month?

Having a routine checkup for your pets dental care is important to the overall health and wellness of your beloved fur baby! Red gums, stinky breath, or yellow teeth can lead to oral disease if not treated, leading to a poor quality of life.

To ensure the best dental health for your pets follow these trips and tricks!
1.) Take your pet to the vet for routine wellness exams, which include a good look at those pearly whites.
2.) Brush your pets' teeth regularly. It is reported that only 1% of pet owners routinely brush their pets' teeth! BUT- be sure to use a brush and tooth paste specially designed for pets as human grade toothpaste contains too much fluoride content, which can be toxic for pets.
3.) Always look for the Veterinary Oral Health Care (VOHC) seal of approval on dental food, treats and water additives as these have been researched and proven to have a positive impact on dental health and wellness!
4.) If you are concerned about the condition of your pets teeth, call our receptionist team and set up a consultation with one of our Doctors! We are here to help!
