Meet Rupert!
Age: 10 years
Male, domestic short hair.
Introducing Rupert, a handsome companion perfect for an active household seeking a playful and affectionate friend, who can provide lots of stimulation for him. With a personality very much like a little dog, Rupert is loyal, energetic, and enjoys being part of your daily activities. He can play a little rough at times, so would thrive in a home with older or no children.
Rupert can be very cheeky, is super food motivated, and loves a warm spot to curl up in once his daily shenanigans are finished - as long as he’s sleeping near you!
This sweet older gentleman will eagerly rub against your legs and seek attention on your lap. He is very friendly and adores human company. Rupert's confidence and headstrong nature add a touch of charm, making him the perfect entertainer for his new family. He loves being the centre of attention!
Although Rupert may prefer being the sole cat in his new home, he may tolerate a less dominant feline companion, as he has to be in charge of his household tends to prefer human company.
Experience the joy and laughter Rupert brings - come and meet him!
Needs: no young children (no sun/indoor only. No dogs in the home.

Meet Bug!
Age: 9 years
Female, domestic short hair.
Cuddle bug? Love bug? They’re named after me. I’m the smoochiest little girl. I will enforce my love strongly and often in the form of headbutts.
I am sweet, very placid, and low maintenance. I don’t rudely demand food, I am tidy, and I won’t take up much space as I’m on the smaller side.
I will often chirp as a way of saying ‘please pat me!’. I love a covered space close to the ground to lounge in, such as a box on a cat tree.
I like the company of other cats, but would prefer a home without dogs as they disturb my peace. I would be happy in any home with a calm atmosphere with humans that will provide me with lot of ear scritches. Due to my quiet nature, I would be happiest as an inside-only cat - the outside world is too big and loud for me!
If Bug sounds like the perfect fit for you and your home, come in and meet her!
NEEDS: Indoor only, no dogs, suits gentle children.

Hello, I’m Mavis!
Ragdoll x Devon Rex
Age: 8 years+
I am so very gorgeous, so I hope you don’t mind just looking and not touching. I would prefer my humans just provided me with yummy food, a soft, comfortable bed and then left me be. I am an older lady, very set in my ways. I will request that I have rule of the house, as I like to do things MY way. It’s taken me all day to get my hair this way and I can’t have it messed up.
If I’m not in the shelter I might decide to show you my soft side though, nobody really knows what I’m like in a home so I may surprise you with a little TLC and respect. Even though you can’t touch me much I will happily provide you with smooches on my own terms, by rubbing against your legs or even curling up in your lap! I probably won’t cope with children so it’s best if my new home just has adults.
I love my breakfast and dinner and will demand it at the same time every day – I like routine. I will need a cat savvy person to bring out the best in me, that includes a relatively quiet household to relax and queen around in at will. I might sound like a grump, but aren’t we all sometimes? Did I mention I’m old? And I’ve been a shelter FOR AGES? Plus how gorgeous are my eyes??!!
My previous person said I was Ragdoll x Devon Rex, but regardless of breeding I just need an understanding person to give me a second chance. If you’re looking for a new companion with a huge personality then look no further.
NEEDS: indoor only, no cats, no children

DOG TALES - ODIN'S STORY
You can support Odin and his friends by donating to the GAWS Winter Appeal.
"Hello, I'm Odin. I’m a huge, 42 kilo, Great Dane cross Saint Bernard who arrived at GAWS in poor medical condition eight months ago.
I was so nervous when I came to GAWS. I came in with a friend - she was rehomed pretty quickly, but GAWS wanted to keep me in care for a bit longer. I arrived with rotten teeth, itchy skin, a previously ruptured ACL and a bunch of warts and lumps.
And boy oh boy have I had the works at GAWS. They really do care about each individual animal as they prepare us for our forever homes..."
Odin’s care costs including medical have added up to approximately $7500. Continue reading his story and support our Winter Appeal to help us create a happier, healthier future for vulnerable, surrendered and stray animals!

DOG TALES - SNAGGLE & SAMPSON'S STORY
You can support Snaggle and Sampson by donating to the GAWS Winter Appeal.
“Hello, we’re a bonded pair of senior dogs – Sampson & Snaggle.
Just as we were reaching our retirement years, our lives changed forever.
A few months ago, our living arrangements were changing so we arrived at GAWS where we were promised to be cared for and eventually rehomed.
We both arrived at GAWS with matted fur and severe dental conditions. We enjoyed a good haircut at GAWS, and thankfully some painful grass seeds were removed at the same time.
We both needed a lot of urgent dental work. We had some teeth removed and Sampson had a jaw operation where a lump was taken out..."
The cost to GAWS for Sampson and Snaggle’s medical and care expenses have added up to more than $5500 so far. Continue reading their story and support our Winter Appeal to help us create a happier, healthier future for vulnerable, surrendered and stray animals!

DOG TALES - BUDDY'S STORY
You can support Buddy and his friends by donating to the GAWS Winter Appeal.
“Hi, I’m Buddy. I am a six year old Labrador with a positive attitude to life. But to be honest, life was pretty bleak there for a while.
I came to GAWS in April as a severely underweight stray and my eyes had not been working properly for quite a while.
The lovely people at GAWS have been giving me some good quality (and yummy!) food to help me gain weight and feel healthy again, I feel so much better already. They put me on the scales every week, and the people are so happy with the kilos I’ve gained - they give me huge pats and tell me I’m the best boy.
The GAWS vets have done everything to make sure I am fit, healthy and comfortable as they prepare me to go to my forever home. I have had worming, flea treatments and vaccinations. I also had a procedure so I will never be a doggy dad. They’ve treated me with lots of prescribed medication to help my eyes too. They even took me for a drive to an eye specialist to investigate my eye condition..."
Buddy's medical and care expenses so far have added up to more than $4400. Continue reading Buddy's story and support our Winter Appeal to help us create a happier, healthier future for vulnerable, surrendered and stray animals!

GAWS Winter Appeal - Meet Jinx
DOG TALES - JINX'S STORY
"Hi, my name is Jinx. I’m a whippet puppy who has had a bit of a tough start to life.
I broke my leg when I was very young and had a cast, but unfortunately while it was meant to be healing, my leg became even more painful. There were some sores on it and I ended up with an infection. I heard the people talk about amputation, but I didn’t know what that meant.
The next thing I knew, I was dropped off at a place called GAWS. I am not sure why I ended up here, but the people are really nice and they love looking after me..."

ADOPTIONS | A DOG A DAY TO END THEIR STAY
We have one last special boy to show you to close out our long termers promotion. All of the dogs highlighted over the last 7 days have been in our care over 90 days and are desperately awaiting their happy ever after.
Meet Marvin!
Marvin is a young, strong willed boy looking for an experienced owner that can further instil basic manners and guide him through the teenage years. Marvin can be incredibly strong on lead and likes to go where he is going and fast. He has been working on his patience and manners and this will need to continue in his new home. He thrives on positive reinforcement and a calm and patient handler. Marvin came to us as a stray with no prior history. He may require integration into indoor/outdoor living. Marvin would not be suited to living with cats or pocket pets nor children under 16. Marvin must attend structured training classes to further enforce the bond between handler and dog, and work on his self regulation. He may be suited to living with a very well matched, calm dog that can help guide him.

ADOPTIONS | A DOG A DAY TO END THEIR STAY
We have an abundance of long termers looking for their forever homes. These dogs have been in our care for more than 90 days and desperately want to bust out of the shelter and into their new homes.
Over the next week we will be posting one of our long termers each day to help them gain some exposure, and hopefully a new home!
We'd love you to meet Rupert!
What rhymes with Rupert? Cupid!! Introducing Rupert the 26kg gentle love bug! Don't let Rupert's size fool you as he is the ultimate kindest, sweetest soul. Rupert came in as a stray and it's clear he hasn't had the best life, so it's so amazing to see that he doesn't have a bad bone in his body and he is a sure favorite with all the staff and volunteers. Despite his size, Rupert thinks is a lap dog! The devotion that he shows to his humans is truly special. Rupert is currently in foster care living with 6 cats, a 5 and a 9 year old child and he shows them nothing but love and respect. Rupert has met many dogs and has been a perfect gentleman, but we think that he deserves his humans to himself, so he would need to be the only dog in the home but he is happy to share a home with cats! Rupert came to the shelter with a skin allergy so it is important that he stays on an allergy diet accompanied with regular cytopoint injections. His ongoing medical needs are non negotiable and keep him feeling like his best self. Rupert just loves being inside and has been learning to transition into an inside/outside lifestyle. Rupert is great on lead and loves his daily walkies. Rupert needs a home where he is a part of the family he just adores being with his humans. Do you have space in your home and heart to give this beautiful boy the home that he truly deserves?

Say hi to Jaxx!
Jaxx is an affectionate but inexperienced large breed dog requiring committed and firm owners to train and nurture Jaxx to be a well behaved dog. He has a training requirement and is best suited to a cat, dog and child free home where emphasis can be placed on his development. He is housetrained and can walk well on lead when there is low stimulation surrounding him. Jaxx is not a first time dog but rather for the experienced handler that has the tools to help guide him through and beyond to a happy future. Jaxx will be a project dog for someone with the skills and knowledge that can help set him up to succeed.

Meet Samson!
Samson is a senior malamute cross who is looking for a quiet retirement home. He can be aloof and independent at first but with time can become quite attached. Although Samson does like to play with his doggy friends, he is best suited to a home where he is the only one so he can get all the attention to himself and won't have to share. Samson is also not suited to a house with any cats or pockets pets, or people under 13. Samson does appear to have some training and is working on fine tuning his lead skills. He is house trained and would enjoy a home where his owner is home more often than not and he has indoor access.

Have you met Bubbles?
Bubbles is a high energy, medium/small mixed breed who has had an untrained start to life. Bubbles is extremely engaging with her human friends and is great to handle, she does jump up and requires boundaries. Bubbles was initially very feisty when meeting dogs but with time and exposure she has turned a corner, now a regular in a boisterous social group. Bubbles will need her new owner to contine her confidence and practice with dog to dog socializing and implement a structured training regime. She is best suited as the only pet in the home and no young children as her jumping will be a hazard.

Say hi to Chilli!
Chilli is a large Stag mix looking for his forever home. Chilli has previously been an indoor/ outdoor dog and is well toilet trained. Chilli will need daily exercise and plenty of enrichment and toys to keep him busy. Chilli has had great improvement in the shelter with his lead skills and basic manners, these can be fine tuned within the home. Chilli's new home will need to be pet free and children will need to be over 12. Chilli has proven to be an overstimulated dog in busy situations and can get defiant, he will need very firm rules and boundaries to guide him through life.

Meet Peggi!
Peggi is a 5 year old Staghound/bulldog cross looking for a confident and knowledgable new owner. She will need someone who is willing to take the time to help show her the ropes in terms of training and socialisation, as Peggy has missed out on a few of these. She does however have some amazing handler focus and has some great potential for training. Peggi is best suited as the only pet in the home to ensure she can get her new families full focus. She may suit living with children over 6, walks relatively well on lead and indicates she may be house trained.

Our Black “Fur” Friday half price adoption fees are coming to a close!
Any animal with black colourings (let’s be honest, most have a smidge of black) will be adopted at the reduced fee.
Meet Jax!
Jax is a young and impressionable large breed mix looking for a committed and confident owner that can further build his social skills and expose him to positive experiences. Jax will need some back to basics training and further lead skills and will benefit from structured training classes. He is dog friendly but can sometimes forget his size and manners which can be a little overwhelming for other dogs. Jax may suit living with a well matched female dog that is tolerant but would be better suited as the only dog during his initial adoption and training. Jax has not been tested with cats and is not suited to a home with children under 10.

We have approximately 20 dogs with black colourings available for adoption.
Introducing our black furry puppy Shadow.
Shadow is a very special dog looking for a committed and knowledgeable home. When Shadow first arrived in care, she had no exposure to the outside world and only knew her backyard. It has taken dedicated time and positive encouragement to help shadow learn that new places and people weren't scary and she is safe. Once she warms up shadow is a super sweet, funny and affectionate girl and behaves like any big puppy. Shadows new home will need to be one where a family can commit to slow introductions to new places and people, weekly training and it is strongly recommended that children in the home be over 16. Shadow is dog friendly and would benefit from a rock-solid male dog companion that is confident with new people and places to show her the ropes. Shadow cannot be rehomed with cats or pocket pets.

CAT ADOPTIONS | MEET CHARLIE & LOKI
CAT ADOPTIONS | MEET CHARLIE & LOKI
We think we may have introduced you all to Charlie and Loki before but it was that long ago that we thought a reminder was in order. Two hundred and something days in the shelter and they are STILL patiently waiting for their special person, they are chomping at the bit to get out!
Before you all race down to rescue them, let us tell you a little bit about what you're in for with these two. And yes that is two - they are to be adopted together.
They are the craziest larrikins you'll ever meet. They are both full of 'catitude' but we love them anyway and we are looking for that special someone who will feel the same way as we do!
Loki may put on a tough exterior but when you get to know her you'll be sure to see her sweet side. She's an independent lass, happy to do her own thing but enjoys a pat and will follow you to the ends of the earth for treats.
Charlie likes to think he's the dominant one, and in most cases with us humans, he is! But he's found his match in Loki who can play wrestle with him 'til the cows come home! Although they only met in the shelter, they are so good together we just knew they had to be be adopted as one.
Now what does that home look like you ask? While a home with an outdoor cat run would be 'purrfect', we understand this is not always possible. These two would love a large space to burn off their energy so a home on acreage would also work. They could even double as 'working cats' for you and help you control those pesky rodents in your sheds or barns. Of course they'll still need their creature comforts, a nice cozy place to sleep and a human slave to deliver their meals.
As much as we love having these two crazy cats around, it's definitely time they found their own place to call home. So if you think you may have just the place for this awesome duo, we'd love to hear from you, otherwise please share this post to help us bust these two out!
