Do you own a pet rabbit? Is it vaccinated?

Rabbit haemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV) is a virus that typically causes a rapidly fatal disease in rabbits. There are two types of RHDV present in Australia (RHDV1 and RHDV2). RHDV1 has been used as a biological control agent to reduce the feral rabbit population in Australia since 1996 (the K5 RHDV1 strain was introduced in 2017). RHDV2 was first detected in 2015 in Australia. It is currently the strain causing most of the deaths in domestic rabbits.

Filavac VHD K C + V is an inactivated bivalent vaccine for rabbits against RHDV (Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus) types 1 and 2.
It’s a once a year vaccination.

Chocolate is a big no-no for our pets. While we enjoy its rich, sweet taste, it contains ingredients our dogs and cats can’t metabolise. Kitten Vaccinations
Just like us humans, it's important for cats to get vaccinated to protect them from certain diseases. The F3 vaccine provides protection against the following three viruses. This is referred to as a ‘core vaccine’ in Australia.
* Feline Panleukopenia Virus
* Feline Herpes Virus
* Feline Calicivirus

Their vaccination schedule starts from just 6 -8 weeks old and it's important to keep up with the recommended schedule for kittens, as this will help ensure they're properly protected from diseases such as feline distemper (panleukopenia), feline viral rhinotracheitis (feline herpes virus 1), and calicivirus.

This week we welcomed Dr Clara Wornell to the FFVH team.
Clara was born and raised in the UK, completing her veterinary degree at the Royal Veterinary College of London. She worked for just over two years in first opinion small animal practice at two busy hospitals in the UK before making the move to Australia and joining the French’s Forest team.

Clara enjoys all aspects of veterinary practice, in particular surgery, emergency work and end of life care.

Seeking a change in lifestyle from the UK, Clara will be making the most of the beaches Australia has to offer. Surfing, running, swimming and surf lifesaving will be what you can find her doing outside of work, as well as exploring other parts of the country.

Is your dog 7 years or older or your cat 10 years or older?
As you would know preventative health care is very important to keep an eye on any health issues that commonly develop at this age.

Senior health checks can include:
Weight checks
Arthritis grading
Dental assessment
Physical checks
Cardiac assessment
Eye examination
A nutrition plan that is tailored to your pet’s needs
Blood and urine test

For all the lucky Best for Pet members, your unlimited consultations and a preventative blood and urine screen each year is completely free. Through this, you will have peace of mind that you are taking all necessary precautions to keep your furry child happy and healthy. Of course, these are only some of the many benefits you can enjoy as a Best for Pet member.
If you would like to book your pet in for a senior health check or speak to one of our nurses about your senior pet’s health, please contact our clinic. Getting older doesn’t mean your senior pet has to stop enjoying their life! www.ffvh.com.au or 94521066

Here is Miss Daisy having some cuddles with her lovely owner after being such a brave girl for the Vet today.
She had an ear swab taken and examined in clinic, which showed there was some fungi and bacteria present. She was sent home with some medicated drops to clear it up. She also had a pedicure done on her cute little feet.
