Itโs also: Feline Hypertension Awareness month! (High blood pressure in cats) ๐ฑ
Did you know that an estimated 1 in every 5 cats over the age of 9 years suffers from hypertension?
Just like in people, high blood pressure can go undetected for a long time. This is a dangerous condition that can lead to many long term ill effects on the body.
Signs that your cat may be suffering from high blood pressure include;
๐พ Sleeping more or being less active
๐พ Not sleeping at night/pacing
๐พ Changes in behaviour
๐พ Meowing more than usual
๐พ Increased drinking
๐พ Changes in eyesight/ Bumping into objects
Luckily, when caught early enough, there are treatments available to help control blood pressure and significantly reduce the long term risks.
Measuring a cat's blood pressure is quick and painless and we can perform this test as part of our senior wellness clinics, suitable for cats over 7 years of age.
(We also run senior wellness clinics for dogs)

* Senior wellness clinics *
Did you know we run popular senior wellness clinics?
During this 40 minute appointment, our nurse will perform a physical examination, measure your petโs blood pressure, check a urine sample and take a blood sample to measure kidney, liver, thyroid (cats) and multiple other parameters to check that your pet is not suffering from underlying disease.
Our wellness clinics are designed to detect disease early, ensuring the best possible outcome for your pet and cost 85 pounds.

Our nurses are fully qualified to carry out laser treatment on your pet. Laser therapy is used to treat a variety of inflammatory conditions, such as arthritis and muscle pain. Laser therapy can also be very useful to speed up wound healing, reduce scar tissue and improve nerve function.
Handsome Raffi was in recently to have laser therapy as part of his treatment for joint disease. As you can see, he enjoys his treatment and we think he is rocking those protective glasses ๐

Vet Nurse Awareness Month: ๐ป๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ค๐ฅ๐ฃ๐ช
We are proud to deliver a very high standard of dentistry at ICR Vets. Did you know our nurses play a crucial role during our dentistry procedures? Nurses are responsible for monitoring the general anaesthetics, performing the scale and polishes, placing the appropriate nerve blocks for extractions, and ensuring a comfortable, smooth recovery for our dental patients ๐พ
Vet Nurses have hugely varied and demanding roles and we look forward to highlighting different areas of their jobs this month ๐
We had a fantastic time! Thank you for having us ๐
Today is National Receptionist Day and we are celebrating!
We are so lucky to have such an amazing front of house team.
You will have seen these friendly faces! Our receptionists are wizards of multitasking; juggling phone calls, managing our desks, making sure the day runs smoothly and keeping us all right! Thank you to each and every one of you, we would be lost without you ๐

Our Vet Rachel and nurse Chloe were delighted to attend Currie Primary School recently for a visit with all the children. They had a great time, and chatted about how to keep our pets happy and healthy. The children asked lots of great questions and we discussed what it's like to work at a Veterinary Practice. Thank you for having us and we hope to visit again soon ๐พ

Gorgeous Holly ๐
This picture was of Holly when she was in for her keyhole spay. She was a wonderful patient and enjoyed a lot of attention! We saw her back for her post-op check 3 days later and her owners reported she is doing great and has made a full recovery ๐ฅฐ
Did you know we perform keyhole spaying for cats as well as dogs? We are proud to be one of the first clinics to offer this minimally invasive procedure allowing a very comfortably and short recovery - most pets are fully healed after 3 days!

Jura came in to have two of his baby teeth (deciduous teeth) removed, after they had failed to fall out on their own. Jura had a short anaesthetic and dental surgery to extract these teeth. He recovered very well and enjoyed his post anaesthetic snack! ๐ฅฐ
Did you know dogs have 28 deciduous teeth as pups, that are later replaced by 42 permanent teeth? ๐ฆท All the better for chewing those treats with! ๐ฆด

The combination of medical science and the caring nature of the profession suits her perfectly. She loves the daily variety this job offers. Iona has a particular fondness for our feline friends, but can't resist a canine cuddle! Did you know tortoiseshell cats are almost always female? We love our tortie friends! They usually come packed with personality! ๐ป
Tortoiseshell cats, sometimes called โtortiesโ, are known for their uniquely beautiful multi-coloured coats. ๐ป Tortoiseshell isnโt actually a breed, itโs a coat pattern, just like tabby. ๐
The science behind the โshell ๐
๐งฌ Tortoiseshells have not one, but two co-dominant colour genes (black and orange) working together to make the unique coat patterns.
๐งฌ Most tortoiseshell cats are females because itโs the two X chromosomes that carry the genetic information for coat colour. The Y chromosome that males have, doesnโt impact on their coat colour. But sometimes a male cat can be born with XXY chromosomes, making it possible but unusual for a tortoiseshell coat!

โจ Be seen on walks โจ When walking your dog in the dark, make sure you stay visible to cyclists and drivers. Reflective or high-visibility clothing can help. You could also try attaching a light to your dogs collar.
Going for a walk during firework season? Dogs often flee when they hear loud noises so it's best to keep them on the lead, that way they'll stay close to you at all times and remain safe. When taking them out for walks or toilet breaks, do so before it gets dark.
๐ Keep your pets indoors ๐ They might panic as fireworks go off so it's a good idea to keep them safely inside - that way, they cannot run into danger.
