Neutering means removing the reproductive organs; this is either the ovaries in females (known as spaying) or the testicles in males (known as castration). Neutering is a routine procedure that does not require overnight hospitalisation, with an average recovery time of 5-10 days.

Microchipping rabbits is not a legal requirement but is strongly recommended.

Rabbits are excellent escape artists and, if they manage to escape the garden, it can be difficult to identify where they have come from.

Flystrike happens more often in warm weather, and in rabbits who have soiled fur (often due to poor diet, obesity or arthritis).

Throughout the spring and summer rabbits must be checked twice daily and any soiled fur cleaned. If you find any sign of fly eggs or maggots you must arrange for your rabbit to see a vet as soon as possible.

Both indoor and outdoor rabbits require vaccinations to keep them safe from infectious disease. ๐Ÿฆ  Young rabbits are particularly vulnerable to serious illnesses, so itโ€™s important to get them vaccinated early.

Rabbits can be vaccinated from five weeks old and will need yearly booster vaccinations throughout their life to maintain immunity. ๐Ÿ‡

Take Your Dog to Work Day: 21st June 2024

There is no denying the fact that dogs can help to alleviate stress in the workplace. ๐Ÿถ

In fact, a survey conducted by The Kennel Club revealed that 70% of people think dogs reduce stress within a working environment, and even stroking a dog is said to reduce blood pressure. ๐Ÿ“‰๐Ÿฉบ

Tomorrow marks the start of Diabetes Awareness Week - did you know your furry friends can get diabetes too?

Diabetes causes levels of glucose (sugar) in the blood to be persistently high. ๐Ÿ“ˆ

Normally when blood glucose levels increase, the pancreas releases a hormone called insulin which adds in a number of ways to lower the blood glucose and prevent it from getting too high.

In celebration of veterinary nursing awareness month, we would like to introduce you to, and show our appreciation for, Christina our patient care assistant.

As a patient care assistant Christina helps the whole team any way that she can; this can include holding patients for procedures or for a general health check over. She also helps with running blood samples, making up medications, and all aspects of patient care such as walks, feeding or assessing pain/wounds and surgical sites post op.

Working with the nursing team she makes sure that the practice environment is clean and tidy and fully stocked up with everything that may be needed throughout the day.

The month of May marks the start of National Walking Month. Why not take advantage of the lighter evenings by going for a gentle stroll with your dog? ๐Ÿฆฎ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ

You do not have to pound the pavements to reap the benefits: just 30 minutes of walking a day is enough to increase cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones and boost your mental health. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฆด

03/05/2024

The month of May is officially National Smile Month, which we consider to be the
perfect time to share joy and positivity and show off those pearly whites. ๐Ÿ˜

Keeping teeth in tip-top condition is not just important for humans, but for pets too, and thatโ€™s why our trained vets and nurses offer full dental checks at our practices. We recommend pets have regular dental check ups to prevent diseases that can otherwise be difficult to detect at home. ๐Ÿฉ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿฆท

Last Friday we had the pleasure of spending the day with the gorgeous Jamie, when she was in to be spayed.

Here she is modelling one of our cat hides that are provided for all our feline patients that are staying with us during the day. These provide a space for cats to feel safe and secure while they are with us, or in Jamie's case they provide a great vantage point to watch the comings and goings from the cat ward. ๐Ÿฅฐ
