🐾 This Sunday it’s all about the dogs at Ben’s Yard! Our Pet Dog Show, in collaboration with dogs, is back and everyone’s welcome to join in or just come along and cheer from the sidelines.

From the cutest puppies to the most handsome hounds, prettiest girls, waggiest tails and most appealing eyes – there’s a class for every kind of dog. We’ll also be celebrating our best rescues and golden oldies (8+), plus crowning one lucky dog with the ultimate Best in Show! 🏆✨

Each class winner will also win exclusive access to the brand new Ely Dog Park ,opening very soon!✨

Interesting research carried out regarding neutering

Preventing unwanted litters is a goal we all share—but it's time to rethink the surgical approach. Hysterectomies and vasectomies, which preserve hormonal balance, can safely be performed as early as 8 weeks of age, making dogs sterile without disrupting their natural hormones.

In this study, researchers looked at whether the age at which dogs were spayed or neutered, meaning how long they were exposed to their natural s*x hormones, affected how healthy they were in old age. They studied a group of long-lived pet dogs to learn what helps dogs live longer, healthier lives. Dogs with the fewest age-related health problems were considered the most “robust.”

The results showed that both male and female dogs who kept their hormones longer (i.e., were spayed or neutered later) were 3 to 10 times more likely to be healthy in old age compared to those altered earlier. Once hormone exposure and age were taken into account, there was no difference in old-age health between males and females.

This study highlights how important s*x hormones may be for staying healthy later in life and shows that early-life decisions—like when to spay or neuter—can have long-term effects on health.

Do you want to take part in an all inclusive, fun, obedience based sport for you and your dogs?

We offer Talking Dogs Rally Classes on a Saturday morning at 10am.

As the classes are PAYG rather than a course, we do ask people new to the sport to attend a workshop first as an introduction.

Great advice, we often say focus on the green lights not the red lights, but this sums it up really well

“Click the action, not the termination.”
Sounds simple, right? But this little gem from Alexandra Kurland is one of those deceptively obvious tips that separates clarity from confusion for the learner.

Behaviour isn’t just a thing—it’s an action—a continuous stream made up of many smaller behaviours. A wiggle, a pause, a bounce, a stretch, a shift in weight, a spark of enthusiasm. When we click, we’re delivering a discriminative stimulus for reinforcement—so the timing of that marker really matters.

Miss the moment? You might be reinforcing a different behavior than you intended. Maybe the stop, the shift, or the glance away—rather than the action you’re trying to build.

Here at Progressing Partnerships Dog Training and Behaviour Centre we are relaunching our Rally O sessions.

These sessions develop a really strong bond between dog and handler whilst improving the dogs desire to be close to you, their focus on and engagement with you and great for disengagement from the environment (all great skills to improve loose leadwalking, recall and chase struggles).

Come along to our 2 hour workshop on Saturday 8th June at 11.30am to find out more. The cost of the workshop is just £20.

Classes are then £15 per session, reduced to £12.50 per session if you book 4 or more sessions at the same time. Sessions are held on a Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon. You control your bookings and come when you can, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, some Saturdays, some Sundays, we are totally flexible.
