Rspca Airport Hostel for Animals (LHR) ANIMAL WELFARE ....."NOAHS ARK TAKES WINGS" The Hostel was built on a "truly rural" site for which they paid a "peppercorn" rent of one shillng (5p) a year.

Opened in 1952, this was the first, purpose built, "Airport Animal Hostel" in the world, and copied by the American SPCA, in 1954, at "JFK" airport New York, USA.
