Day in the life of an Equine Veterinary Care Assistant
Our Equine vet care assistants are invaluable to the daily workings of our Equine clinic. So we decided to strap a go-pro to them so we could show you some of the things they get up to!
Hope you don't get travel sick watching!
An invitation to you all! Come and join us for our lameness locator demonstration day Wednesday 15th May at 2pm 🤩

🦠Equine sarcoid removal 🦠 This week we had the lovely Rebel in for laser sarcoid removal under GA. We thought we would give you an insight into what happens start to finish during a procedure like this!
Sarcoids are fibroblastic skin tumours that are common in horses, ponies and donkeys. Although sarcoids can develop at any time of the year, they often become a problem in warmer weather. There are many treatment options, but the chapelfield team used laser treatment on this occasion.
Benefits of laser include:
🐴 Reduction in bleeding during surgery - the laser seals small vessels while cutting
🐴 Reduced risk of spreading tumour cells during tumour excision, this being particularly important in removing sarcoids
🐴Reduced pain - the laser seals nerve endings while cutting
🐴Promotes efficient wound healing
🐴Faster recovery: less inflammation and swelling, and less post-operative complications at wound site
🐴Minimal aftercare.
🐴Excellent success with low rates of recurrence of sarcoids
Laser can be performed under standing sedation and local anaesthesia or under general anaesthetic.

Although rabbits originate from the western Mediterranean, they’re not actually used to spending too much time in the red-hot sun. This is because in the wild, rabbits hide out in deep burrows where it’s cool and shaded. Hot summer days can prove dangerous to our bunnies. Nurses are the unsung heroes of the veterinary world. Often working away behind the scenes, their crucial work can easily be overlooked or unacknowledged.
This short video highlights some of the tasks our equine nurses carry out to support surgical cases in the clinic.
