RSPCA Mid Norfolk & North Suffolk Branch An independent Branch of the RSPCA. We reserve the right to delete any of these types of comments, or ban any user who infringes these guidelines.

Moderation guidelines
The RSPCA Mid Norfolk and North Suffolk Branch is here for animals and we’d love our page to reflect this. There are so many important animal welfare messages to get across and discussions to be had; we’ve got a few guidelines to ensure all this important stuff doesn’t get lost! To help us keep animal welfare at the top of the agenda, please don’t post any:

• violent, obsce

ne, profane, hateful, or racist posts, links or images
• comments that threaten or defame any person or organisation
• solicitations, advertisements, or endorsements of any financial, commercial or not-for-profit organisations
• comments that suggest or encourage illegal activity
• multiple successive off-topic or disruptive posts
• repetitive posts copied and pasted or duplicated
• posts containing specific details about cruelty cases (these should be reported to the National RSPCA cruelty line on 0300 1234 999, rather than posted here)
• posts which we feel may potentially impact upon prosecutions. Where an investigation is considered ‘active’, any comments made about the case may mean someone facing charges might not be in a position to have a fair trial and the trial could collapse. In addition to this, individuals who seek to persistently antagonise our supporters, and accounts which are suspected to be false profiles created with the intention of breaching a ban and persistently antagonising RSPCA supporters, will be removed from the page.

Success Story 🌟

Bryan, previously known as Ryan while in our care, took a little while to find his forever home - 703 days in fact. After watching all of his feline friends leave the RSPCA, patiently waiting for his turn, he was successfully adopted a few weeks before his 17th Birthday. We’ve caught up with his new owners to see how he’s getting on:

“We have decided to call him Bryan rather than Ryan. Ryan seems like a young name to us so, as an older gentleman, we thought Bryan would be more fitting – and it’s not too different from Ryan!

Bryan has settled in really well and we’re now getting into a routine.

He’s been sticking to his medication, and it must be doing him good as he’s whizzing around the house like he’s on fire! He is such a friendly boy, that’s very loving and lovable.

In the evening he’s taken to coming to sit with us and will head butt me or put his paw on my arm for strokes. During the day, he likes to sleep on the bed in the loft area where it’s warm and sunny. We’ve bought him a cat harness so he happily go outside and explore the garden.

We couldn’t hope for a friendlier puss and we’re so pleased we adopted him.”

We're so happy for you, Bryan! 🥰

There's only one week to go until our heritage exhibition at The Forum, Norwich opens!

Running from Tuesday 10th - Sunday 15th, join us in celebrating our past and building our future as we mark our 60th anniversary.

A great day out for families and schools - a chance to learn all about RSPCA's history and heritage on both a local and national level. You'll also be able to wander through the supporters’ gallery where you will see displays from the 60 schools for 60 years project!

Our friendly team will be on hand to answer your questions, share memories and give advice.

Here's a sneak previous of some of the memorabilia you can expect to find on the display boards 👀

Sometimes you just get the feeling that someone is watching you 👀

We recently rescued this very sweet litter of kittens from a feral cat site at just 5 weeks old, and they were sadly covered in lice and fleas, as well as suffering with worms.

Thanks to our animal welfare team, who gave them plenty of care and the necessary medication, they're on the mend and will soon be ready for adoption and looking to find their forever families!

Natures Menu - we thought you should see the little home they've made for themselves in the cattery in the mean time. 🏠

Meet the Team 🌟

Meet Madeleine, a member of our fantastic Shared Services team. Madeleine joined the Branch in March 2022 as a Receptionist and is now a Reception and Administration Coordinator for the Branch.

🐾 Madeleine says she wanted to work for the RSPCA because she's "always had empathy and interest towards animals growing up and remembers wishing that they all had someone to understand them. Although no one can help every animal, the next best thing is helping where it is possible, and a charity raising money to support and rehabilitate animals who need it is what I wanted to be a part of."

🐀 She also rescued 2 rats from us last year - Scotti (was Biscotti) and Cannoli.

💻 Madeleine says the best part of her role is when she makes a positive difference for owners by giving advice that they may not have been aware of before. The hardest part of her role is having to say no to rehoming animals when the Branch sadly does not have the space for them.

Read Madeleine's 'Meet the Team' interview below and find out what's it like to work on our busy reception desk!

As a local branch of the RSPCA, we want to support those living in our Branch area across Norfolk and Suffolk, to help educate and improve pets lives.

That's why we offer financial aid to pet owners struggling to afford veterinary care, and have different kinds of support available to help with vets bills, including subsidised neutering and low-cost microchipping as well as pet food banks.

As mentioned in the post, we are a small charity with a limited budget - but will always try to help where we can or direct you to some who can help if we can't.

If you live within our Branch area and need financial assistance please get in touch:

Six puppies have been found abandoned in the area of Welney and Ten Mile Bank in
Norfolk on different days during the same week. The first puppy was found on Thursday 8th August, another two on August 9th, one on Sunday 11th and then two more on Tuesday 13th August.

All the pups were kindly rescued by members of the public who took them to vets for treatment. They are now being cared for by RSPCA Mid Norfolk & North Suffolk Branch, RSPCA West Norfolk and RSPCA Block Fen Animal Centre where they're being treated for skin conditions.

If you have any information, please contact our appeals line on 0300 123 8018.

Did you know that in December 2013 there was a tidal surge in Norfolk, which was the largest seen in 60 years?

It came at the height of the grey seal pupping season and washed hundreds of pups out to sea. In the next few days many washed-up further along the shore orphaned and unable to be reunited with their mothers.

The amazing team at RSPCA East Winch Wildlife Centre admitted 83 orphaned pups in just a few days during the Tidal Surge; The same number they would normally admit over several months. Staff and volunteers worked around the clock for months in order to rehab and release them. They even received a letter from the Queen for all their efforts!

We have countless fascinating stories like this to share with you at our heritage exhibition at The Forum, Norwich next month - join us from Tuesday 10th September until Sunday 15th September and let us take you on a journey through time, dating right back to the 1800s...

Hello, I’m Ben!

I’m a male rat that has been neutered and I’m hopeful I can find a ratty friend to be bonded with as I could do with some company!

When I came to the RSPCA I was a bit poorly, but I have had some treatment and am feeling much better! I am still unsure of handling, but once I am picked up and distracted with my favourite treat (strawberries!)

I don’t mind chilling with you! I’m hoping to find my new home soon so I can learn more about the good things in life.

Please apply if you would like to adopt me:

Did you know we regularly upload new items to our eBay account? 📲

If you love up-cycling, have an eye for collectables or just want to grab a bargain, our eBay store is full of hidden gems and affordable goodies!

Even better, shopping with us means you're also helping to rescue and rehome hundreds of animals across Norfolk and Suffolk each year.

As a charity it's really important that we find different ways to raise funds, and our eBay account is just one of the ways you can financially support our small but mighty team.

Black cats need love too! 🖤

Unfortunately, we often find that black cats take the longest time to be adopted, through no fault of their own. Joey, Pepperoni, Porkchop, Steph, Boss and Tyke are desperate to find their forever homes and would make the perfect companions.

➡️ Boss, Steph and Tyke were all brought into our care as kittens from a large feral cat colony. All just 10 months old, they are happy, playful and loving little beans, with plenty of personality! All 3 have had some tummy issues and are currently on a sensitive diet which is recommended to continue in their new homes initially.

➡️ Joey is only 8 months old, and was also from a large feral cat colony. He's now well socialised and very chilled out, and would love to live in a calm household with outdoor space.

➡️ Pepperoni is 1 year 5 months old. He came into our care needing lots of TLC, especially because he had poorly ears. He's now feeling much better and would love to find his forever family.

➡️ Porkchop is a little older - 5 years 2 months old. She came into our care as a stray, but loves being around people - especially if they're giving her chin scratches.

Do you have space in your home for a new feline friend?

Adopting a rescue dog is a fantastic thing to do, and gives an animal that's often had a tough start in life a chance at happiness and finding their forever family.

We try to make our adoption process as seamless and accessible as possible, but due to the instability many of our animals have suffered, we have to ensure that their future home is 100% suitable.

It's important to be prepared for the responsibilities and challenges that come with adopting a rescue dog, so here are four key things to consider:

Only 1 month to go until our 60th anniversary exhibition 🎉

We're teaming up with The Forum, Norwich as their partner for heritage week to celebrate our 60th anniversary - and we'd love for you to join us!

For six days throughout September, we'll be taking you back 200 years to where it all began...

Sharing with you the history of the RSPCA in Norwich and Norfolk since 1840, insights into the role RSPCA played in both World Wars as well as the work of local wildlife centres.

There will also be memorabilia, stories from local people about our many different sites and shops and a supporters zone recognising the local schools and businesses who have supported us this year.

An activity day is also planned for Saturday 14th September with stalls and talks, so make sure it's pencilled in your diary!

*NOW RESERVED* Reggie and Garlic are still looking for their forever homes as a duo!

This bonded male and female pair have become inseparable in our care, and would love to join a family that can provide them with plenty of outdoor space, an abundance of hay and lots of fresh veg 🥬

Garlic (1-year-old) can be a bit naughty when being handled as she doesn't like being picked up but she is such a cutie and very sweet natured.

Reggie (4-years-old) is adorable as well. He has had dental treatment in the past and will need to visit the vets regularly to have his teeth checked and potentially need more dental treatment.

Interested in adopting this very sweet couple?

There are a few simple steps to go through before welcoming our animals into your home - click here to find out more about the adoption process for Reggie and Garlic:

We understand how difficult it is right now for pet owners, which is why our pet food banks have been a lifeline for many.

How does it work?

🐾 You can apply for help from our food bank by calling us on 0303 040 1565 or sending us an email at [email protected].

🐾 We can usually help with wet and dry cat and dog food but occasionally have food available for exotics and small furries as well.

🐾 Generally, you will need to collect from our Ashwellthorpe office however we also work with several pet food banks across Norfolk and Suffolk so if you cannot get to us, we may be able to advise of somewhere closer to you. In certain circumstances we may able to drop off the donation directly to you.

Please be aware we cannot guarantee we will always have specialist brands and food in stock. As a small charity we are limited in what we can offer but will always try to help where we can!
